Subtitles on streaming programs

Does anyone know why, when a program is supposed to have subtitles, the occasional episode seems to miss them.

Currently watching the peripheral, and I’m now on episode 6….which has no subtitles!! The rest do.

I wonder why

I don't but it's bloody annoying. I'm watching Funny Woman on Sky catch up. Downloaded all the episodes - Ep 1 no subtitles while Eps 2 - 6 have them. Ridiculous.

It’s so annoying in this day and age. I’m deaf and rely on subtitles.

I hear ya (no pun intended!) Programmes and channels that don't have subtitles annoy the hell out of me. I have partial hearing and just can't watch without subtitles.

It really annoys me though that the first 5 have subtitles. Number 6 doesn’t. So now when I go on to number 7, I’ll probably missed something important

Oh yes, this really annoys me too. I have hearing loss and rely on subtitles.

PuppyMonkey · 22/02/2023 19:00

Have you tried switching it off and then back on again?

Soubriquet · 22/02/2023 19:03

Yeah. There is no option to turn off or on subtitles on this particular episode. It just doesn’t come with it.

I totally sympathise- I'm trying to watch Life in pieces on prime and the subtitles are not in sync! 🤬
But definitely even more annoying when there's none!

Sometimes it's the device/software problem. On phones with latest OS and latest app it should work - but the same thing might not work on old TV with an old app. Try it on your phone and you'll get the best option.

Not sure what service it’s on but when we watched the last series of Derry girls on all4 after a few episodes we had to wait a couple of weeks for the subtitles to appear on the next episodes. If it’s been newly released sometimes for some inexplicable reason there can be a delay in adding the subtitles.

Epicstorm · 23/02/2023 00:38

With Sky it’s often an episode missing not just the subtitles. Just been watching’Scott & Bailey’ and each series had at least one episode missing. Same when I watched Law & Order U.K. No idea who to contact to complain about it.

I meant turn the telly off completely at the plug, leave for 30 seconds then switch back on.

Soubriquet · 23/02/2023 07:53

No I didn’t do that. I just carried on and I’ve now finished the series

Oh same here, also rely on subtitles 100% so have to miss programme if subtitles aren’t available. Looking at you Dr Now/Quest Red, a favourite junk programme and of course American accents so no chance of following it…

You can tell which programmes have subtitles by the fact that they've got an S in a box when you look at the info. Switching the TV off and on again won't change that.

PuppyMonkey · 25/02/2023 11:42

Ok, just a suggestion - sometimes my tv gets a random glitch like that and I switch off and on at plug and everything resets and the mysterious glitch is all cleared up.Smile
