Recommend me a good camera

If you manage to take beautiful photos of your kids/pets etc, what camera do you use?
I used to love my old-style photos, Photos used to generally come out well without the need to mess with lots of settings.
Please recommend me a good camera (or camera phone). I’m fed up of photos either being really grainy or over-exposed looking, or the colours not being true to life. I want something that retains its detail without having to mess about with the photos.
Any recommendations appreciated.

What is your budget? I think recommendations will have to be based around your budget.

lighting is the most important factor in getting good clear photos no matter what camera you use. try to ensure you are taking photos in good well lit areas of natural light. cheap camera phones can produce a photo just as good as the most top of the range high spec camera phones if the lighting is good.
