What is middle class

Dear wise Mumsnetters. I'm not from the UK.

I moved to London when I was a teenager, currently work at a tech company here. I have never heard anyone mention 'classes', but have seen 'middle class' being mentioned a few times here. What is considered middle class, and do people still have classes nowadays?

It isn’t any one thing. As with working class and aristocracy, it’s greater than the sum of its parts.

There is no check list, because some people from X class will do some of the things on the list, and some won’t - and some people from X class with do things from other classes.

As I say, it’s far greater than the sum of its parts.
