Where would you go on holiday in May?

I’m planning a big family holiday for May half term 2024 - 12 people aged 1 to 75! Family open to different locations as long as plane journey isn’t longer than 4 hours.

I need somewhere where the weather will be nice and warm (mid twenties approx I guess) at that time of year where there is stuff for all age groups.

Can anyone help me with location ideas or have you been somewhere that sounds like it fits the bill?

Somewhere in the canaries?

BlueChampagne · 22/02/2023 16:39

The Peloponnese.

APurpleSquirrel · 22/02/2023 16:42

Italy? Would be warm then. Depends what sort of holiday you're planning - laze by the pool; day trips; attractions; sites; beaches etc?

Canary Islands. Tenerife or lanzarote

Everywhere in southern Europe will be warm in May. The world is your oyster.

Sort of a bit of everything of that exists...maybe some history but also stuff kids would find fun. I know I'm being vague but I've never booked a holiday for so many people and I'm not especially well travelled.

Portugal..Right down South. The weather would be lovely at that time. Or Majorca which is one of my favourite spots.

Ylvamoon · 22/02/2023 17:31

Italien lakes? Or Achensee in Austria- lovely area with plenty to do for all the family!

liveforsummer · 22/02/2023 17:35

I'd go to Cyprus (Ayia Napa area) but the flight is slightly longer

Bluelightbaby · 22/02/2023 17:40

South of France, Italy, Spain, Portugal

reluctantbrit · 22/02/2023 18:29

Cyprus or Sicily

IntentionalError · 22/02/2023 18:32

Wherever you want! Everywhere south of Paris will be lovely & warm in the last week of May. Southern Spain / Potugal, southern Italy, Greece etc will be much more pleasant then that in July & August.

StillWantingADog · 22/02/2023 18:35

algarve.
glorious down there at whit last year. Got a bit hot for a day or two but mostly very pleasantly warm

TheFairyCaravan · 22/02/2023 18:37

I’d go to Kos for weather in May.

We’ve been to Menorca at the very end of May, before, and it was really showery.

kej567890 · 22/02/2023 18:39

What type of budget? Are you after villa/self catering? Or luxury hotel?

Grumpafrump · 22/02/2023 18:42

I’d go for somewhere in southern Italy (Almafi Coast/Capri/Puglia/Sicily) or the south of France. We always go to the south of France for May half term because the weather is perfect, there are fewer crowds, and accommodations are 1/3 of the price.

We are not on a budget particularly. I was thinking of a villa that could accommodate us but I really don't know what the most cost effective way of doing it is

I'm looking at menorca for the end of may next year!

kej567890 · 22/02/2023 19:05

@ImprobablePuffin

Take a look on Oliver's travels or James villas in an area that's easy for you to fly from ie regular flights from your local are and use that as a start

Vitriolinsanity · 22/02/2023 19:11

You can't rely on Cyprus in May in my experience (play golf there a lot). Chilly at night too so outside dining a bit unpleasant.

1st June and it changes like someone turned the lights on.

NannyGythaOgg · 22/02/2023 19:35

Olu Deniz/Hisaronu/Ovacik in Turkey. Flight just over 4 hours (maybe 4.5). High 20s during the day. Warm enough at night with maybe a light cardigan.

Friendliest people you could ever wish to meet.

I am there, again, this year. 17th for 11 days. Can't wait
