Any other EDF Energy customers just had a massive refund?

I have clearly been paying too much on my dual fuel direct debit because EDF have just refunded me £785. Anyone else?

The annoying thing is that they are keeping my DD of £215 pcm at the same rate, so now I'll have to phone them to find out why. I know the energy price cap is rising in April, but not by enough to justify continuing such a big overpayment.

I am with EDF and nearly 1k in credit. No refund for me.

Is it your 6 monthly bill? Mine is April and October. In October I'd deliberately overpaid all summer I got sent back £800 then they upped my dd. I put the £800 back onto my account, worked out roughly what I needed to pay and requested a reduced dd. Because of the silly billing system I keep a close eye on my account and have a running total of what I am spending. I'll come out of winter only slightly in credit but will continue to pay more over summer than im using in order to even out the winter months.
I've found rather than ring them use the app it's much easier. Also if they don't reduce your dd to what you think is right re-request giving reasons it worked for me.

Is it EDF that take you back to a zero balance every so often? I tend to leave a small credit balance as a buffer and then tailor my direct debit so it doesn't make the credit too high.

Remember that after March we will no longer get the £67 credit towards bills so you will need to cover that too.

Have you given meter readings and had a bill? EDF only bill every 6 months so that credit balance may be vastly reduced when a bill is produced

We also pay a huge DD which covers our winter use ( especially as it’s been so cold) and will keep it going over the summer to get ahead . We’ve been reading our meter weekly as we thought they’d over estimated our use .. turns out they weren’t far wrong

Just had £200 refund with most recent bill and account balance is now £0. Direct debit unchanged.

Mammyloveswine · 22/02/2023 14:39

I got £300 just before Christmas but still have around £500 in credit

Those credits went straight to my bank account, not to my bill, so I don't need to cover them on future bills.

I had this with EDF last April when I was trying to build credit. I called them and they explained as it's a 6 months billing system they have to credit back the extra unless told in advance by the customer not too.

Sunriseinwonderland · 22/02/2023 14:53

I manage my own DD on EDF, I pay the absolute minimum and then there is around £200 to pay at the end of the quarter. I have no intention of being 1K in credit anytime soon. They have 1K of your money.

Last bill was in September. I have a smart meter.

Mistymornin · 22/02/2023 15:19

I received a refund of £830, applied to decrease my DD from £200 to £150 which was approved. Let’s see how this goes.

You may have a smart meter but EDF only produces a bill every 6 months so that £1k will have some of it accounted for once they use your readings and calculate your bill.

Mistymornin · 22/02/2023 18:45

My smart meter is crap, it cannot read gas, only electricity, I have to read gas meter and submit on line.
