Acting and drama - adult lessons?

Prompted by another thread.

I've been thinking lately that I might like to try acting or acting lessons. To what end, I don't know,I just think I might enjoy it.
I wonder if anyone else has done anything similar? Would an acting class for adults be the thing or straight in (I have no experience at all) to amateur dramatics group? I'd love to hear of any experiences.

Thanks in advance

I've done acting classes, they were fun, and helped me with public speaking, which I had an issue with. I'm in London and there are lots of different types of acting classes, I don't know about outside large cities.

Not done it, but I want to. If anything, to increase confidence etc.
There is a theatre in my town that does beginner classes for adults. The aim is to get people to try something new, meet people, increase confidence etc... not just get into acting. It is for absolute beginners.
Is there a small theatre where you live? They might offer similar.

I've done a fair bit of am dram in the past and everyone's experience is really variable!

There are bigger am dram groups where they audition to get in and where there is a prerequisite to be a bit of a thespian/triple threat (singing, dancing and acting) but in my experience, all the smaller groups have been lovely and welcoming with a good porpotion of the actors/actresses not being able to hold a tune or have any sense of rhythm 😂
