Advice re swimming and haircut please

Hi, I have a haircut booked for tomorrow afternoon. I've been invited to go swimming with friends, which I'd love to do, but won't have time to go home in between, so would be going straight from swimming to the hairdressers without showering.

Is this gross, or is it acceptable? I won't be getting my hair wet. I've just moved house so this is a new hairdresser, first haircut with her.

Can’t you swim/wash your hair at the pool?

BuzzyBusyBee · 22/02/2023 08:31

As long as you are booked for a wash and cut I don’t see the problem - I have done the same and never a problem

LeafHunter · 22/02/2023 08:38

It’s fine. I once arrived at the hairdressers after getting caught in a rainstorm. They blow dried my hair before colouring it, but if it was Just a cut then then washing would have come first. I’d probably wear a swimming cap though

Swim pools have showers . It’s gross not to shower after being in a pool .

Sorry, should have said, I'm swimming in the sea. So no shower!

Could you use a swimming hat?

rookiemere · 22/02/2023 08:52

Your hair will be getting washed at the hairdressers so I can't see the problem at all. Maybe tip whoever washes your hair a bit more than normal, but that's the only change I'd make.

Could you use a swimming hat?

I wear a woollen bobble hat (very stylish) and aim not to get my face/hair wet at all. But invariably there are some splashes!

@Fidgety31 I agree, but I'll be swimming in the sea, so no showers.

If it makes any difference, it's a pebble beach not sand so I won't be trailing sand everywhere. And I don't mind the smell of the Sea but the hairdresser might.

As its a new hairdressers I wouldn't recommend it, I would expect them to check your hair for texture, how it falls etc before washing and salt water will affect all that

MagpiePi · 22/02/2023 09:02

i can’t see it will be a problem. Just explain to the hairdresser that you’ve been swimming in the sea.
I don’t understand why you would smell after swimming in the sea, unless it is full of raw sewage or something?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 22/02/2023 09:13

@MagpiePi I smell "salty" if that's the right word! Definitely no sewage where I swim, it's quite a remote beach. Ideally I'd swim slightly earlier and then go home and shower/change, but work commitments plus fitting in with others means I'm tied to a certain time. It's quite remote and I'm nervous about swimming alone in winter, so I need to go when others are going.

Funkyslippers · 22/02/2023 09:19

I think it's fine. Just explain what you've been doing and I'm sure your wild swimming will be a great topic of conversation!

Dammitthisisshit · 22/02/2023 09:21

If it’s a haircut then won’t they be washing it first? In which case perfect.

Even if they’re not washing it (which is unusual) then it’s only a bit of salt - might affect how quickly you wash out your lovely styled hair but it’s nothing disgusting.

I don’t like sea swimming alone either - grab the chance to go while you can!

cocksstrideintheevening · 22/02/2023 09:26

I cannot sea (sorry!) how this would be a problem. It would t even cross my mind to worry about it.

LaviniasBigBloomers · 22/02/2023 09:29

As long as you're not getting colour, can't see a problem. I've turned up in worst states, don't see the point of going to the hairdresser with freshly washed hair!

BluebellsareBlue · 22/02/2023 09:50

As the daughter of a hairdresser (my DM passed away in 2017) and me taking over the salon (not as a hairdresser I'm retired police) and having been in there/helped out for around 35 years, I can promise you this will not be a problem. If you're getting a proper style then they will wash your hair anyway, even if just a trim, no one actually cares to be honest.
If you are still worried, just shove some body spray on. We've smelled so, so much worse!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 22/02/2023 10:58

@BluebellsareBlue thank you! I guess because it's a new hairdresser I want to make a good impression, if that doesn't sound weird.

Because I'll be dressing on the beach after swimming, I tend to wear clothes that are easy to pull on (jogging bottoms, baggy sweatshirt, no bra) so I'm not too exposed - I don't want to spend ages trying to get skinny jeans on to damp legs! Although the beach is remote, there are often men fishing from the beach. They don't need to see me wrestling with a bra!

So a ridiculous part of me is reluctant to turn up in baggy/scruffy clothes, with salt all over me, and ask the stylist to make me look chic and glam 😅

Which is crazy because I'm.not chic and glam, I'm a 55 year old woman who likes to swim in the sea, not sashay around in make up and glam clothes.

You're overthinking

TherealmrsT · 22/02/2023 12:56

Mine wouldn't mind and would chat about it.
I have gone straight from the pool a couple of times after rinsing but not shampooing and have just said that's what I have done.
They also don't care what I wear, just that I pay (and I assume dont smell unpleasant or are rude!)
