Mini pill- how long did your bleeding go on for?

Just started the mini pill- accidentally missed 2 days after taking for only 3 days as I left it at home when I stayed elsewhere. Then I started bleeding. Heard horror stories of this bleeding going on for months, so I'm just interested in your experiences. Should I cut my losses now and try the combined pill? Or wait and see if it only lasts a few days? I'd rather be using condoms than have a continuous period!

Bump! Should I change topic?

Probably not what you want to hear but for me it lasted 3 solid months until the GP told me to stop taking it. By then I had really low iron and had to go on iron tablets. I've heard it's 50/50 whether mini pill will give you loads of bleeding or none!

4 months of spotting when I started it, and a few days of light bleeding when I missed a couple that stopped within two days of getting back on it

3 months and I was about to give it up when it stopped and I never bled again - now 10 years+ and counting.

So happy I stuck with it.

Seraphina1993 · 22/02/2023 20:14

Had a weeks bleed after a few days taking it and then almost no bleeding for the years I was on it

WGACA · 22/02/2023 20:19

I started one week ago and have had 2 days of bleeding. I hope it stops soon 🤞

emmathedilemma · 22/02/2023 20:40

12 weeks before I decided enough was enough and stopped taking it.
I was taking it to try and help with heavy bleeding! 🤣

PARunnerGirl · 22/02/2023 20:42

9 months of almost constant spotting and bleeding! Came off it and back into combined pill. Then I stopped that once I turned 42 (the doctor wasn’t concerned as non smoker and healthy weight, but I just decided to).

Dahlia444 · 22/02/2023 20:44

About 6 months so gave up

runningonberocca · 22/02/2023 20:50

Bled for about 6 months on and off - quite light but very unpredictable and almost every week for a few days. Then it stopped completely and nothing for 2 years and then I ran out whilst isolating with Covid so missed about a week and now I’m back to having irregular bleeding again - although quite heavy right now - like a normal pre pill period

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 22/02/2023 20:53

Went to the GP 3 months in and begged to come off. She made me see it out it ended precisely as the 6 month period elapsed I'm still on it now but god it was a pain, literally

MoonlightMemories · 22/02/2023 20:54

I bled to varying degrees of heaviness for maybe the first 4-6 months of being on the minipill (can't take the combine due to history of migraines). Been on it for about 2 years now and get the occasional bleed (sometimes lightly/spotting, other times it's more like a period) every few months or so.

mindutopia · 22/02/2023 20:55

I don’t think I had any bleeding. But I’ve always found the pill (both of them) quite easy and problem free. Only the copper coil was a complete nightmare.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 22/02/2023 21:01

A week or two max. Then none and I've not had any for nearly ten years.

Fedupofchangingusernames · 22/02/2023 21:02

I started on the combined pill about 8 weeks ago and I've been bleeding for nearly a month and it's got progressively heavier.

I decided to stop taking it last week as I was getting painful legs and was getting paranoid about DVT.

The whole point of me taking it is because of heavy painful periods - so frustrating!

abbs1 · 22/02/2023 21:07

Its best to start on the first day of your period. I found this helped to stop the break through bleeding quicker. When I didn't I started bleeding within days and bled/spotted for weeks.
Once settled though had 4years of no bleeding before I came off it to have my kids.
Starting it again when my next period comes and hoping the bleeding is short again. 🤞

SpringIsSpringing23 · 22/02/2023 22:01

I started in January. I'm normally 32-37 day cycles. I started bleeding on day 25 and it lasted about 10 days. That was 3 days of fairly light then 2 of normal period then 5 days of very light to the point I thought it had stopped then would start again.

I'm on day 19 of this cycle I ovulate 3 days ago (I get really bad cramps when I ovulate) so I'm expecting another period. I will give it 3 months in total and if it doesn't settle then I'll stop taking. I'm not taking for contraception (single). I'm taking it to help my periods.

SpringIsSpringing23 · 22/02/2023 22:03

I started on first day of my period.
