Am I the only one who tries tp book time away from home when I am not likely to have a period?

It has not always worked out but I mentioned it to my friend who said that it has never occurred to her to be taken into consideration.
I also saw a short by Amy Hart who said that she tried to avoid having her period while on Love Island (understandable when you are in a bikini in a goldfish bowl being watched on live TV). However, she was on the pill so i expect it was lighter than mine!
I've never been on the pill so I am talking about the full works over five days.
Is it just me?

Of course not. I do. Don't take the pill to stave off your period if you are new to it. Take it for a few months first.

BooksAndHooks · 21/02/2023 19:19

When I was able to take the pill I would. Since I can’t take it anymore I have no way of predicting that far in advance. For about 8 years in a row it has been when we are on our only holiday of the year.

Despairingof · 21/02/2023 19:26

Mine are too irregular to plan but I dread it clashing with a musical festival I go to

Encorebiscuitandtea768 · 21/02/2023 19:30

I used to do this when I had periods. They dominated my life (had endo). Dominated our travel schedule too. A complete pita and I was so envious of my dh that he didn’t have to even consider anything like this!

MobyJeff · 21/02/2023 19:31

I’m too old for all that nonsense now, but I don’t think I could have done this. I wouldn’t have ever done anything if I had to work around the monthly inconvenience. I remember going to France on a coach trip during my period, and there was a strike at the port and we ended up spending 30 hours on a coach with one tiny toilet that got blocked 18 hours in. That was grim.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 21/02/2023 19:39

It never occurred to me that people planned tbh, I can't say I've calculated the chance of being on during Feb half term 2024 when planning to go away.

Brightstar84 · 21/02/2023 19:41

I’m the same - but it’s more the mood warping PMT than the period itself as I know wherever in the world I am or whoever I’m with I’ll feel like the world is shit and so am I 🙈 once my period properly starts it’s almost a relief!

But no - you are not unusual to plan around your cycle although more than a few months out is risky as your dates could be off

PetitPorpoise · 21/02/2023 19:50

I don't but i'm disappointed when i realise it clashes. Since children, my day two is very heavy so even being at work can be a bit stressful, let alone being out and about all day. I wouldn't cancel something because of it, though.

DappledThings · 21/02/2023 19:53

Never occurred to me to plan this way. But I've never been very good at remembering when I'm due anyway. I think I have been quite regular in the past but I'm not sure.

Doingmybest12 · 21/02/2023 19:56

It became a consideration when they became really heavy at one point, but by then I was even trying to factor it in for planning a long walk or a day trip. It is all over now but looking back I should've seen the dr at the time.

housemaus · 21/02/2023 20:06

No, but I am very lucky that mine are short and (now I have the Mirena coil) light. My sister's are very heavy and she would probably try and line up her pill to avoid it if she could.

Beldam · 21/02/2023 20:12

I hear you… not on the pill either so 7 days of bloodshed. Regular as clockwork though so would definitely plan a holiday around this.

namechange8621 · 21/02/2023 20:16

I am not planning to start on the pill but I am trying to book something for Easter and the short February and bank holiday weekend really make me nervous. I will be on and off boats a lot which makes me 😧about the heavy days.
I keep telling myself that if I managed days 2 and 3 in Russia in uncomfortable circumstances then I should just get on with it but I don't travel as much as before and I just want it all to run smoothly.

No. I use a menstrual cup so I completely forget I'm on my period, and it's really easy to empty and rinse out twice a day.

I once tried one of those (because I heard great things about them). However, it definitely never went to plan - for another thread 😂

Can you take those tablets to delay? That's what I am going to do when I go on holiday this year

declutteringmymind · 21/02/2023 20:51

I take Tranexamic acid for heavy periods and it reduces them to a trickle - far more manageable but some people get side effects so worth trying before your hols.

Some people also take ibuprofen before and during a period to reduce the flow.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 21/02/2023 21:21

I don't but honestly my period is very light and only lasts two days (I know I'm very lucky)

Hartlebury · 22/02/2023 07:20

I don't specifically plan unless it's somehow relevant but I'm disappointed when I realise.

I've booked a trip away for a week long city break with friends so there's no flexibility on when we can do it, it has to be that week and boom, it's due literally the day we fly.

Hartlebury · 22/02/2023 07:21

@namechange8621 re menstrual cup - it does take a few cycles to get used to it, but if you can master it it's so worth it. It's the only reason I'm not spitting with rage about aforementioned holiday.

SuperDuperJezebel · 22/02/2023 07:33

I do often check because I use a period tracking app and have done for about 10y so it's scarily accurate at predicting when my period is likely to be. I can see that I'll probably start halfway through my summer holiday in August so I'll be getting a prescription for norethisterone before I go!
