Does accepting klarna/clearpay mean a company is legit ?

Looking at a new sofa and after having 2 bad experiences with DFS and not being able to afford sofology ... I came across sofa world UK. They offer cash on delivery which made me wary... But they accept klarna and clearpay ? I'm wondering if they were dodgy they wouldn't be able to do this?

Is this the company on Trustpilot ? uk.trustpilot.com/review/uksofaworld.com

I always search for reviews before parting with money.

mayaknew · 21/02/2023 14:14

Cant find it in trust pilot there are a good few companies with very solar names to it but none on trust pilot that matches the name exactly

If it's not on Trustpilot or Companies House I'd be wary. Anyone can set up a business, register a domain name, and register with online payment systems. The Range do really cheap chairs and some sofas. I'm sitting on one.

Quick check and sofaworlduk is the same as sofa world Ltd.

Generally reputable firms don’t miss their tax filings.

What I'm thinking though is if I pay with klarna I'd be protected no?

Or I could just do cash on delivery? If I don't get the delivery I don't part with money ?

Do you have a credit card? That would give you the protection you are looking for. If the sofa doesn't arrive or isn't as described, you can get your money back from the credit card if anything goes wrong with the retailer.

mayaknew · 21/02/2023 14:28

Yeah have a credit card. Could maybe do that then. Think it's a bit of a too good to be true company

Absolutely not! Haven't you seen all the stories a couple of years ago of people who returned items or didn't receive them and still had to pay their Klarna/Clearpay installments?

mayaknew · 21/02/2023 14:29

Just swore I would never order from DFS again. Still paying off the 2 grand sofa we have now and it is absolutely wrecked. I complained and got nowhere.

Argos. Harvey Norman. Littlewoods (now called Very). The Range. Dunelm.
All do sofas, generally cheaper than DFS.

It doesn't have to be "DFS or well dodgy potential scammers"

Ikea?
Sofa Sofa?
Swyft?

nancy75 · 21/02/2023 14:53

I don't know what kind of checks Klarna do, I work for a small business that does bookings online - our card provider has offered us Klarna as a payment option for customers (we don't use it) they haven't asked us to provide them with any extra information about the business or run any extra checks that I know of. We are a legit business but I don't know how they would know that!

Mercedes519 · 21/02/2023 14:59

So if you use Klarna or any finance company the sofa company gets paid by the finance company.

So they have all the money. And you owe the finance company regardless of whether you get the sofa or not. The finance company doesn’t care if they don’t deliver or it’s rubbish, you are still liable for the debt.

as a PP has mentioned a credit card is the only payment which provides some cover or paying on delivery although that sounds dodgy as hell!

Galadriel90 · 21/02/2023 15:09

Get a sofa from ikea. Indestructible. Had one for 20 years, replaced it with another.

Startingtofeelratherstretched · 21/02/2023 20:01

No, my dh (lovely but has his moments bless him) bought me a v expensive item using klarna and a dodgy website. Never received the item and ignored all attempts to contact them. Klarna did eventually return our money.

CuriousAsh · 24/07/2025 00:13

Hi did you ever find out if it was legit?
