What is biting me??

I’m at my wits end and wondering if someone can help.

Something keeps biting me each night I sleep. I’m currently in a t shirt, leggings and am sockless - despite such little skin on show im being bitten multiple times on my feet and ankles each night. Partner who sleeps fully naked hasn’t had a single bite 😒

I’ve checked for bed bugs and can’t see anything, in fact can’t see any bugs at all. I’ve washed bedding on a high heat, hoovered the mattress and bed frame and still the fuckers are biting me. Any tips on what to do next? I had bed bugs years ago and am finding this whole situation stressful and triggering - as mad as that sounds.

it’s definitely coming from our bed, been away for a week and not a single bite. A few nights at home and I’m on 12 bites already. It happened before we went away too, again feet, ankles, a few below the knee - even when sleeping in shorts and t shirt.

Do I just go straight to pest control?! I just have no clue what the pest is.

Im so sorry you are going through this it's a nightmare!!! Do you own any pets at all?If so you could be dealing with fleas :(. If you have any bite pics that might be helpful to identify what your dealing with.

Itchy234 · 21/02/2023 02:00

No pets.

Sorry for bizarre pics, they seem to be fading fast. Red spots are from last night or Friday, the white ones on my Achilles are tonight’s new additions!

I'd say flea. Hoover again and see if you get the blighter.

Mamofgremlins · 21/02/2023 03:08

They do look like flea bites at the front of your ankle but more bed bug like at the back (sorry I know that's not much help,) but you could set a little shallow dish with a generous amount of dish soap in it and warm water leave under the bed and see if it catches anything, for some reason it seems to attract fleas. You definitely don't sound mad it honestly is such a massive stress. Fleas aren't very common without pets but not impossible especially if you've moved not long ago. You can get flea sprays a lot claim to kill other things like mites and bed bugs aswell but it's important if it is fleas to find a spray with an growth inhibitor to prevent more hatching. Hoover like your doing, for whatever the pest your doing the right things like hoovering and hot washes etc. Fleas like dark areas so skirting boards, under beds etc are really important to give a good hoover. My son was covered in small itchy bites similar to like you've shown, i had a few but they left my daughter and husband alone! It was so weird!

Sammysquiz · 21/02/2023 06:25

I had similar and it turned out to be fleas in the footwell of our car! I mention that because you say they’re only on your feet and ankles which was the same as I had. The itchiness wouldn’t start immediately so I thought it was bedbugs for ages.

ThePollutedShadesOfPemberley · 21/02/2023 06:45

If it's mainly legs and feet, fleas. If it's elsewhere too, bedbugs. Indorex for fleas is good.

I don't have pets and we had fleas in our house picked up when we visited someone. I tried everything to get rid of them but ended up paying a professional £120 for poison to be sprayed everywhere including my car. They also only bit me. So frustrating! Does a neighbours cat sit on your doormat?

LaviniasBigBloomers · 21/02/2023 07:03

Oof, flashbacks. Do you have pets or have you recently moved?

It looks like fleas to me, I got them when I rented - the previous tenant's dog had kindly left them behind. Took ages to work it out.

Itchy234 · 21/02/2023 07:04

We moved a couple of months ago and I think they had a cat - will buy a flea spray and keep hoovering! Thanks all, will report back.
I hate sleeping in socks but resorted to that plus bug spray last night, so fed up with the bites and itching.

Apparently they can hibernate then when it warms up/you put the heating on they come back to life. Little fuckers. Spray everything soft, leave it a bit then shampoo carpets. Boil wash sheets. Then repeat.

Keroppi · 21/02/2023 07:10

We moved into a house with no pets that had fleas - they lay dormant until the house is warm enough and then the eggs hatch. 🤢
Buy some diatomaceous earth and sprinkle it in all your corners, it will shred their exoskeletons and eggs. Hoover obsessively and look at the council spray people, I think I only paid £150 or so and you get a follow up treatment free. So sorry!! I get obsessive and stressed when I think about it now.

Smorgs · 21/02/2023 07:14

I got the most awful bites on my ankles and lower leg from a sheepskin rug I bought at a.... flea market

CleaningOutMyCloset · 21/02/2023 07:59

I had this after we moved into our new house, the previous owners had cats so I think it was fleas. I bought some flea spray for carpets, off Amazon, and I also used it on my mattress, a few treatments and it's stopped happening now. I'm also in the process of replacing all the carpets

Itchy234 · 22/02/2023 22:00

Update, no clue why but I took my socks off earlier, went to spray my room and within the 3 minutes I was in there I got bitten on my foot 🤦🏻‍♀️
Keeping my fingers crossed that this spray works!
