Data roaming - can anyone help?

I'm in Amsterdam for a few days. I have payg Vodafone but bought a data roaming extra. When I try to connect to the network, I get a message saying cannot connect at this time.

Vodafone say that roaming is not barred. I've taken out the sim and put it back in, turned it off and on again but when I checked network availability, there's a little symbol next to it that looks a bit like a no entry sign (in picture). Has anyone had this before? How can I fix it?

Do you have a dual SIM phone? If so I wouldn't bother - just pop into the nearest HEMA and get a local SIM card for whatever amount you need. Then cancel your Vodafone purchase once you're back home.

Are you in the city centre? Just wondering if you can go to one of the vodaphone shops there & ask?

You've definitely switched data roaming on right?! Guessing you have but just in case

The no entry sign just means that Vodaphone hasn't got signal in the area you're in. You can connect to the T-mobile service although you probably won't be able to get the internet on 2g (texts and calls only). Data roaming allows you to connect to another provider rather than restricting you to yours.

No dual sim unfortunately. Data roaming is definitely switched on. DH has the same payg plan and bought the roaming extra and he's connected fine to Vodafone NL.

I've tried connecting to T-Mobile but get the same 'cannot connect' message. It's so frustrating.

Luckily there's hotel WiFi but that's no help out in the city. 😕

Make sure your APN (access point name) settings are correct according to Vodafone requirements. I imagine they have an online help page or section on roaming, which should give this info. I'm with O2 but had a similar problem some time ago: couldn't connect to any network except wifi in the EU.

I had a similar problem recently - get your husbands phone, copy over his apn details, and you'll be grand😁
I had it with giffgaff - my apn details were O2 and I needed to return to factory settings before putting giffgaff details in.

Thank you 😊 I looked at APN but only to turn on it and off - just checked and there's a little + button!

Thanks everyone 😊
