New car MG4 (electric)

Hi All, test drove an MG4 at the weekend and really liked it, reviews seem very good, as does the price. I know MG historically (ie since Chinese ownership) has been a bit ropey, but wondered if newer ones have improved?

Very tempted to buy on a 3 year lease, by which time our finances will have changed so we'd have a bit more money to spend (I'd really like a Tesla...). I'd be trading in a 7 year old Volvo XC60, which I've loved, but we don't need such a big car, and the diesel is so expensive, plus it's starting to go wrong and repairs are getting costly. I am a bit nervous of moving away from a 'premium' brand (have been driving Volvo/Audi/VW for years), but for 3 years, it should be alright? Any real life experiences?

Good morning! What decision did you make in the end? I need a new lease vehicle and the electric MG4 keeps popping up on any results page.

Morning!

We went with the MG4 on a lease, but still waiting for its delivery, so can't tell you how it's going 😂. Hardly see any on the road as I guess they're still quite new, but still keep hearing good things (they were even on the BBC news the other day as being a good affordable option for electric).

I've been having terrible issues in getting a changing point installed however, but hopefully we're on the road now to getting that sorted shortly. Our circumstances were fairly niche - garage a long way from the house, not sure if sufficient power without compromising the house and fusing regularly. Had National Grid out to assess and quote for new stuff...it's not been a straightforward journey!!

Thanks for the update. I've got an EV Ioniq at the moment so fortunately no issues with me for the charging point. I need to chose between the MG4, Niro, Megane, MG5 and Peugeot 2008

Ooh nice to have some choice! I didn't test drive any of those others (although had test driven a Tesla, iD3, Xc40 electric, so had something to compare). Will come back and report when the car eventually arrives...

DH went from BMW 5 series to the MG4 and he LOVES it in just about every single way. I hope you feel the same when you get yours.

Hello all
I am trying to find out whether there would be an apetite for a "Cars" topic on Mumsnet where questions like this could be easily gathered together rather than being part of a more general topic. Please could pop over to here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4791818-that-the-opinions-of-mumsnetters-on-the-subject-of-which-car-to-buy-is-much-more-interesting-than-whats-elsewhere-in-the-media and vote/add your comment?

Is there any car related post on here you've not spammed with this today?

CoozudBoyuPuak · 24/04/2023 13:20

Well I've found that there's between 60 and 100 threads active in the past few months that are specifically started by people looking for advice about new cars. I lost count, but I have only posted on about 5 of them so far, which is a very small proportion. (Not planning to post on all of them, I don't have time and I wouldn't want the whole of the "active threads" stream to be full of car threads)

If you're going to get snippy about people discussing things that you aren't interested in, and can't cope with the "don't click on the thread then" option, the advantage of a dedicated board would be that you would be able to hide the topic from your view. But posting information likely to be of relevance to people who started or have commented upon an existing thread isn't spamming.

You're pulling up months old threads to try and drum up support for a car forum MNHQ has already told you didn't get the traffic to be sustainable.
You have already had posts deleted for this.

As for getting snippy for discussing threads I 'cant cope with', honey, you have absolutely no idea 😂

Quick update - have now had the car since Monday, and so far, so good. It's very nippy, super easy to drive. Auto lane assist (or whatever it's called) is quite irritating on the country roads I'm constantly on, and I can't get my settings to stay from one journey to the next, but still learning how it all works, and overall, it's a thumbs up!

We test drove one too and loved it - it’s a real contender for us later this year

I'm looking at the MG4 too as work is offering a fab deal on lease. How big is it inside and would you describe as a family car?
