Bought some egg fried rice from asda, the ready meal microwave ones in plastic cartons in the fridge. The use by date is today...I was going to make it tomorrow evening, would you chance it? For me and 4 little ones. Anything else I'd not think twice but rice is a bit more strict date wise yes?

Is it better to pop them in the freezer until tomorrow?

For 1 day, I wouldn’t care as long as the pack of rice is not blown

KirstenBlest · 19/02/2023 20:35

Leave it in the fridge, and make sure you cook it piping hot.

Yes of course I'd eat it. It would be a travesty to bin it, frankly. We waste far, far too much food.

As a ready-meal it will have been sat in that plastic carton months already, one more day will make no difference whatsoever.

nxa · 19/02/2023 20:36

I'd absolutely have it, yes.

LuluBlakey1 · 19/02/2023 20:38

Yes, I'd eat it and give it to the DC. I am currently eating Fage yoghurt that is over a year out of date- found a big tub at the back of the fridge, daye is Dec 2021. It's fine.

BarbaraofSeville · 19/02/2023 21:25

I've eaten so much rice that's broken the rules (left overnight at room temperature, reheated badly or twice, part of an out of date ready meal) without an issue that I've concluded that the risk is really not worth worrying about.

Basilthymerosemary · 19/02/2023 21:31

The risk has been overhyped. I eat rice left out overnight, a week old but kept in the fridge, etc.
You know when rice has gone off- you can smell it. Otherwise- heat it up thoroughly and good to go!!

YourWinter · 19/02/2023 21:32

It’s a sealed pouch, it’ll be absolutely fine.

DonzyxXx · 22/06/2023 19:52

Well, I am about to try it myself. A day outta date. Are you still alive? 🤣😂
