Is this doing the rounds in your area?

Its one thing after another in this house. I had a long running thread about a pile which has literally just started to not cause me daily pain after about 6 weeks, then this. (For anyone who read my arse thread, it’s now pea-sized and doesn’t hurt any more and hopefully should shrivel up soon)

Baby DD must have picked it up at a nursery open day (no kids there, but the toys all out which she played with) as we don’t do baby groups and haven’t seen any other children recently.

We had a holiday booked for next Friday. Baby DD seems on the mend, scabs are healing over and no new spots so we remained hopeful. But unfortunately, I had chills and aches on Friday, developed pins and needle hands last night and have come out in a rash today. We won’t be going anywhere so the holiday is cancelled.

It’s vile. I’ve worked in schools for the past decade and have never heard of it. I can’t believe NHS advice is to allow kids to go into school or nursery with it. We have been so so poorly.

Anyway, just a rant. I am so so gutted and disappointed. DH is hopeful that we can change flights and fly out a few days later and at least get a short break in, but realistically- I’m not going to be better.

If we were doing self catering, scabs were healing and could keep to ourselves on a beach somewhere- that would be different- but we were staying with friends. They have kids too and we can’t show up with a medieval plague. Massive dick move.

It's not nice both mine have had it and I had it with my first but honestly it's worse before the spots come out and goes again quite quickly so I wouldn't have concealed your holiday you will be fine by then and you can travel unlike with chicken pox.

If it was a standard holiday, I would have done that- but I’m staying with friends and we really can’t up all spotty. They have young kids too.

I would also have cancelled the holiday, it’s such an awful illness I didn’t send DD back to nursery until she’d fully healed because I didn’t want to put any other children through it. You’ve done the right thing.

Ah yes in that case makes sense so hard though when you are looking forward to being away. Chicken pox got us whilst away last year so we had to come home early only good thing was we were in this country so didn't have to stress about flying.
