Skoda Kamiq or Karoq

Following on from my previous Hyundai Kona/Tucson thread, I was just wondering what people think of their Skodas?

Yesterday I test drove a Kamiq and Karoq. Loved the Kamiq which would be amazing on a daily basis, I drive to work 5 days a week and have no feasible public transport options (soon to be expanded ULEZ zone 🙄). Mostly it would just me myself and the little one but It would be a tight squeeze with up to 5 in the car - my eldest is 18 though so that’s a v rare occurance nowadays.

The Karoq would give us more space (realistically would only be needed for long journeys only once or twice a year). It was surprisingly neat to park etc and I liked the high driving position. However, it felt a bit springy and unstable.

I’ve looked at previous threads and elsewhere and seen that some people have downsized from Karoq to Kamiq because Kamiq is basically a better drive.

Would really welcome the thoughts of Skoda drivers. Mumsnet seems to be the best source of advice on car buying 👍

Hopeful bump 🙂

I really liked the look of the Kamiq, but ended up with a Karoq as it would have cost more to add the bells and whistles to the kamiq that came as standard with the Karoq. Also, as I had the one that was in the showroom I ended up paying a lot less. I've not been disappointed at all with it. Would definitely recommend a Skoda of any type tbh

We've got a Karoq. It's great. Like driving a particularly comfy living room. That said, I still miss the cavernous boot of the Octavia we had before the Karoq.

*Octavia estate.

Ifartglitterybaubles · 19/02/2023 23:06

Another vote for the Karoq, I love driving mine. We have 3 dc and it suits our family, loads of boot space, very easy to park despite its size and like you (op), I like the high driving position.

chipsarnie · 19/02/2023 23:07

Oh, and the Karoq is significantly thirstier than the Octavia. At 70mph on a motorway run you can practically see the fuel gauge moving down.

friendlycat · 19/02/2023 23:16

My BIL has the Karoq and loves it. I test drove the Kamiq and liked it. But I then test drove the VW T Cross and chose that instead.

All three absolutely fine. Down to budget and whether you’re buying new or second hand and what mileage you are looking at. I bought new and got decent trade in value for my own car and wanted the VW sturdiness and reliability that I’m used to. But others I’m sure can say the same being Skoda owners that have knowledge of the brand. I’m well aware that Skoda is a very decent make, just personal preference.

If I had to choose between the two price wise and what you have described your needs as I would have thought the Kamiq is fine.

Thanks for all the replies.

I think I’m pretty much settled on the Kamiq as I think it’s better size and economy wise. Going for a 1.5 engine though so it can cope with all of us in the car at once!

The karoq i think would be unnecessary but an Octavia could be a v good option too.

We have a kamiq 1.5 dsl. Love it.

Thought about a bigger model but we have on street parking only where we live & relatively narrow roads and it fits perfectly.

Very roomy, DH is 6'3 and my same height dad can sit comfortably in the back too. Honestly don't regret it for a second, it's pretty economical. Two of our friends have since bought one when replacing their cars.

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 20/02/2023 22:38

No experience of the Karoq but we bought a second hand Kamiq back in June and are really pleased with it.
And according to an article my husband read Skoda drivers are very intelligent 😂

I thought this was the baby names thread.

DragonsFurry · 21/02/2023 17:10

MoneyInTheBananaStand That’s so good to hear and pretty much the model I’m thinking of!

BriocheBriocheBrioche Intelligent? 😆As far as I can tell they’re also very popular with the grey brigade…My DF appears to be trying to get his even more elderly neighbour to sell him his Skoda Yeti.

Well there hopefully won’t be too many other Kamiq’s or Karoq’s at school! Good gender neutral names too 😂🤣😂🤣

We just bought a Kamiq, 2 weeks ago.
Really happy with it.

As someone else said it's very roomy inside. My 6'2" husband and tall DS can sit one behind the other with bags of room leg wise and headroom.

We went with the more powerful of the 2 smallest engines and it's fine for us.
Great turning circle and lovely to drive.

We looked at the VW Tcross and really liked that too, but it was 60 weeks to order a new one and no stock of the style we wanted, but I'm glad that we went with the Kamiq as it's the same engine etc as the VW and we thought actually roomier inside.

Bluevelvetsofa · 21/02/2023 18:18

I had a Karoq Edition, which I don’t think they do any more. Then I had a Kamiq Monte Carlo. I preferred the Karoq, mostly because of the boot and the comfort. I found the satnav on the Kamiq infuriating and used Google instead.

GuyFawkesDay · 21/02/2023 18:21

On my 3rd Karoq, love them. I get a decent mileage out of my 1.5 petrol engine.

Fits tall teenage children and tall husband + dog easily. Practical, great drive.

Shade17 · 21/02/2023 18:54

We’ve got a modified Octavia vRS estate, it’s alright.
