Someone help? About new job....

Hello everyone,

Did not know where to post this on. Just a quick question about my job. Ok, so I booked onto a training course many months ago but didn't foresee that I will be quitting my previous job. So anyway, I'm due to start a new job but my induction period falls on one of the days on where I have booked onto the training. I don't know what to do as this training was so expensive to book on and it's vital in my career. Would it look bad if I told my new employee that I would like to attend a training session on the day of my induction? What should I do?

I would definitely contact them. If it is linked to your career your new employer will gain from you attending.

Unless your induction date is a huge group/team affair I think you could talk about rescheduling it.

Just explain to your new employer and see what they say. Offer to take the day as annual leave. Or unpaid leave if that's not possible. Or rearrange the training. Don't need to stress about it.

The training is basically a one in a lifetime (ok they run every two years) but it's not possible to rearrange. I didn't want this to look bad when starting the new job.

I’d have let them know as soon as I got the job offer as this is usually when you agree things like pre-existing leave. Just ask them and let them know it’s a personal development thing, they should be flexible!
