York Recommendations Wanted

I am visiting York in the near future (I have been before) and I am looking for nice places to go to for coffee and cake and places to have something fairly light to eat. The plan is to have something to eat for lunch and then cake and coffee later. I am looking for places where the cake is preferably home made and the prices are good for you get. Not necessarily cheap as chips but somewhere that is good value for what you get. I’ve been to Betty’s a couple of times and I am not really looking to go again. If they are in the main shopping area/shambles then all the better!

Thank you!

For a light lunch try House of Trembling Madness (The Lendal one). They do lovely sharing boards, small stews, nice hot rolls.

Or the shambles food court area.

brew and brownie opposite the museum gardens. It will have a queue (moves fairly quickly) which tells you how good it is.

The Pig and Pastry on Bishy Road is great.

Betty’s is so over-rated.

Osborne’s at 68 Gillygate is lovely and you can sit in the garden if the weather is nice.

Dyls by the river! So quirky and cool. Lovely food and amazing cocktails - both alcoholic and non alcoholic. Every room in the tower is decorated differently and I love sitting in the round room at the top - I call it the princess tower 😂.

We like Forest, on Low Petergate.
