Giving blood

Hello,

When you give blood do you have your blood tested first?

Do they do any tests or is it straight in to giving it?

Thank you 😊

When I gave blood years ago they did an initial test where they test for anaemia, using a finger prick test I think. If that's OK then you go ahead and donate there and then. If it's not OK they advise you to contact your GP.
I believe they then test the blood you've donated for HIV, hepatitis etc. And if it shows positive I think they contact you.

I started giving blood about 30 years ago. I didnt have a blood test. And I've never seen anyone one having one at a donor session.
They always for a finger prick test to check your iron levels - I think!

There’s health questionnaire and a fingerprick test to check your iron levels, then the donation takes place, but the blood is then tested before being given to patients (after processing into components).

Finger prick test at first to check your iron levels and then straight into the donation.

They'll test the blood afterwards. You have a few test tubes filled as well as the bag.
