The 10,000 doors of January. Loved it!

The House In The Cerulean Sea - TJ Klune.

A few years old now but still beautiful.

Discworld.

Guards, Guards!, Mort or Witches Abroad are good starting points. And if you like it, the good news is there's about 40 of them, so you can have a whole load of pure escapism!

Leonard and Hungry Paul is a soul food book.
American Dirt is gripping.

Oh yes - these!

M M Kaye's The Far Pavillions. No one is ever going to mistake it for a literary classic but the descriptions make you feel like you are there

Agree with this. Totally not of this world

Another similar but lighter suggestion, The first of the Jodi Taylor 'Chronicles of St Mary's' books. Not out of this world - but definitely out of this time and great fun.

Anything by Elin Hilderbrand !

ComeTheFckOnBridget · 17/02/2023 22:39

The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear by Walter Moers

You won't find anything more escapist :)

SusiePevensie · 17/02/2023 22:50

The Lymond series, starting with Game of Kings.

Phineyj · 17/02/2023 22:56

I recommend Crazy Rich Asians and the two sequels! They will transport you to another world of ridiculous yet compelling bitchy gossipy funny people who do things like install spas in their private jets.

Newyearnewme1 · 18/02/2023 19:37

Thank you everyone some really good suggestions there xx
