Deleting an email address but keeping the emails? Possible?

I have a very old yahoo email account which has been hacked and I now receive around 3 scam emails a day. I have other email addresses that are fine so I don't use the old yahoo one. I do want to keep the yahoo emails though as there is lots of potentially important information I may need in the future.

Just want to stop receiving them.

Could you copy and paste the relevant info into a word document?
Or forward them on to a new email address?

EasilyDirected · 17/02/2023 11:15

I wish I knew the answer to this too, I have hundreds of filed BT/yahoo emails that I would not want to lose (either sentimental value from friends/family no longer with us, or receipts etc. I also quite frequently search the mailbox to see whether it was that email address I used for a particular login for companies I haven’t used for a couple of years etc so I can password reset. Far too many to forward or file separately, I’d like a way to save the whole lot in searchable form.

Can you export them?

Cookerhood · 17/02/2023 11:26

I just dragged the emails from one inbox to a file in my Gmail account called "old BT emails".
It was as easy as that!

Cookerhood · 17/02/2023 11:29

Or just drag them to a file on your desktop, I think that would work too. You don't need to drag them.one at a time, just highlight all the ones you want to keep & drag

Receiving spam doesn't mean your account's been hacked. Or do you mean the account is sending out scam emails?

chipsandpeas · 17/02/2023 12:15

email them to your other email address

email them to your other email address

This, or take screenshots

There are hundreds going back to the dawn of time, but I suppose I could try? I'm one of these people who keep documents forever because you just never know when they will be needed!

Definitely hacked. You can put the email into a website (pawned) and it tells you if it's hacked. If not I win an air fryer every other day. 🤣

I am getting the emails about winning air fryers and kettles. I haven't been hacked. It's just the latest junk/scam.

"haveibeenpwned" tells you if your account details have been leaked in data breaches, it can't tell you "you have been hacked". Changing the password should be your first action if an account appears on that site, but you don't have to burn it down and salt the earth.

EasilyDirected · 17/02/2023 14:37

I guess you could export or drag them if you used Outlook or similar but I only access mine via phone or Ipad or occasionally logging into the webmail on a laptop. The webmail doesn't seem to have an export function. I would want to keep hundreds too, so forwarding them or screenshotting wouldn't work.

FuckKnowsMate · 17/02/2023 15:07

can you not unsubscribe from the spam emails to stop any further ones coming through- there should be an option to 'unsubscribe' at the bottom of the email, normally in very small print

Its just a whack a mole exercise. No matter how many i unsubscribe or block they still keep coming.

thats what I used, but changing the password won't stop (eg) offers to stop malware, which is simply spam

Exactly I get several every day at the moment and I know my email hasn't been hacked just really really annoying found its way onto a spammers list

It's ridiculous that the email providers can't stop the messages getting through

If a human can spot one a mile off why cant AI?

Tinkerbyebye · 17/02/2023 17:31

Once the email address is out there spam starts, it’s not been hacked. As they come in I mark as junk, that’s stopped some of them. Otherwise I just delete 3 a day is not a lot
