Best way of spending spare hour in morning…rather than mumsnetting

I wake up at 6.30 but don’t need to get up till 7.30. Sometimes I go for a walk instead of lazing about.

in summer I trolley round the garden in my dressing gown pottering.

what’s a fruitful way I could spend those 356 hours in a year?

Sit in your kitchen and watch the sun come up/listen to the morning birdsong? That’s what I would do. Just appreciate the world waking up and being still in it.

I just read that back and it sounds like I was saying ‘be thankful you’re alive’! I meant taking a moment to be still rather than filling the time with busyness.

Read, journal, meditation

I too was going to suggest a walk. Some other ideas:

  • plan the evening meal and marinate some meat/tofu/veg or whatever you eat or prep some bits for the evening meal
  • weed the garden, plant out seedlings, re-pot plants, turn over the compost, plant out onion sets/veg/flower seeds or plants
  • yoga, tai chi, stretching via youtube videos
  • go for a swim
  • tidy/re-organise a cupboard or drawer each day
  • start a jig saw puzzle
  • take up crochet, knitting or other hobby which can be learnt via youtube/books etc
  • start planning this years birthday/Christmas gift ideas (if you celebrate and relevant)
  • re-purpose furniture, strip back something old and re-paint, buy 2nd hand and do it up?

Yoga or meditation.

Walk if the weather's ok.

Pinkballoon5 · 15/02/2023 22:40

Get a cup of tea and take it back to bed. Snooze.

I misread that as masturbating 😀and I thought that seems like a decent use of time.. so… but otherwise read a novel, listen to a podcast, meditate, do yoga, write 3 pages of your novel, craft something, listen to the today programme, read the papers, batch cook, do an exercise programme, do your admin and housework, try morning pages, dance around your kitchen to music..

I do prolific surveys each morning - earn some extra money.

Do you play an instrument? I play keyboard with headphones - obviously don't make a racket at that time. Or any other time!

I also do a bit of artwork. I haven't got space, but if you have, you could work on a big painting and you'd have an hour a day on it.

So did I @Luredbyapomegranate BlushGrin
