Is judo club a rip off?

I dont want to tell you which side I am so as not to influence responses.
Child started afterschool judo club in June, run at school by an outside provider, fees are collected by monthly direct debit. Child hasnt been since christmas. Parent notices they are still being charged and cancels membership. Judo charges another month fees saying the contract says there is a months notice required. Parent signed contract but was not given a copy to keep.
Is Judo being unreasonable given the child has missed so many weeks ?

No they're not being unreasonable. Presumably they need notice to cover the place with another child. The parent should pay the month as per the contract.

If they haven’t been because the classes were cancelled then yes, they are being unreasonable.
If they haven’t been because of illness/choice then not unreasonable at all.

No. If the parent was bothered and had manners they would have cancelled before now.

Of course the parent should pay if they hadn’t told the club they’re leaving. Parent has ripped themselves off not turning up when a place is being held for the child. Just imagine if the child was away and then sick or something for x amount of weeks, and when they did finally turn up they found their place was given away? No doubt parent would also be angry then.

Agree with PPs.

It doesn’t matter whether or not the child has been (assuming there’s not a massive drip feed about unusual circumstances coming up).

If they were holding the place for the child, they couldn’t offer it to anyone else and probably can’t get someone to start immediately. So it’s fair that notice is paid.
