I'm staying in Leeds next week
I've booked the Hampton by Hilton in Leeds city centre but after reading reviews -a lot say it's in a dodgy area.
Is this true ?
Would I be okay walking in the dark around that area ?

I don't think it's very central for the city centre . If you are going to the Arena it is better. But it isn't the nicest part of Leeds, and I would check how pedestrian friendly it is as it's by some pretty major roads, great if you are driving but on foot I think it could be difficult.

Ds lives about 10 minutes walk away (in student halls). I've only ever driven that way a couple of times though.

I've parked near there before, I imagine it will be quiet at night as there's not much else around but can't comment on safety. If you were to walk into the city centre then it's only a few minutes from John Lewis so I would walk down to JL walk through and into the Victoria Centre to get into the busier area of the city centre.

I do generally feel pretty safe in Leeds compared to other cities but just haven't been in that area at night.

It’s just outside the city centre and inner ring road, probably not somewhere to walk alone at night. Fine in the day, we park very close to it and would have no issues in then walking into the centre. You’d be fine in a taxi if that’s an option

I stayed at the nearby 'Art' hotel / hostel in the same area of Leeds in December. I felt fine walking to the hotel you mentioned to meet friends and then back from town on my own later that evening, past that hotel back to my accommodation.

It's not a pretty area, but I didn't see anything that made me uncomfortable.

Handy for John Lewis. I wouldn't really want to walk right by there in the dark on my own. You're quickly in the city centre pedestrian area though so it's not far.

That hotel is fine. A short walk to the centre.

If you leave the hotel and go straight up the road it will take you towards Vicar Lane or The Headrow.

It's a well lite area.

Never had an issue in Leeds

Not from Leeds but visit a lot and there’s Ubers a plenty when I’ve needed maybe download app before you go if you don’t use already

When in the dark? 6 pm or midnight? Makes a difference.

If you're wanting to come back from John Lewis at 6 pm, you'll be fine.

But while you'll almost certainly be fine walking across Lovell Park at midnight, that's the sort of thing that will feel less safe.
