Sheffield arena parking

Utilitaparking · 14/02/2023 21:22

Going to an event at the Utilita arena Sheffield this weekend and just trying to work out parking options.

The website suggests park and ride is the best option (we will be coming from M1 J34 so the Meadowhall one) but looking at the park and ride website the trams are only every 20 minutes after 7pm, is it a nightmare to get a tram after the event?

Can anyone advise on other options, google isn't throwing up much!

Any help appreciated.

You can walk from the Arena to Meadowhall in less than 20m, so I would probably do that.

Utilitaparking · 14/02/2023 21:33

I did look at that option and google maps says only a 25 minute walk but unfortunately my dad isn't able to walk that far so we would need to get the tram back.

We parked at the arena last few times we have been £12.50 for the evening, just get there early.
There is a cinema over the road which someone said no one checks the parking there but I’m not sure if risk it.

FawnFrenchieMum · 14/02/2023 21:36

My friend lives in Sheffield and planned to get the tram back but there wasn’t one for about 50 mins when we came out of the arena. She ended up getting a taxi to the park and ride.

DeathMetalMum · 14/02/2023 21:38

Tram should be fine. Generally they hold the trams to allow everyone from the arena to get on once the gig has finished.

Utilitaparking · 14/02/2023 21:40

I was just about to ask about the entertainment complex opposite actually, there seems to be mixed comments online about whether they enforce the no parking or not, and even if you do get a ticket it's a private company so not enforceable...not sure I could be bothered with the faff of a ticket though!

The arena parking is sold out online not sure if they keep any spaces free for people turning up early?

Are you going on Friday? If your dad can’t walk I’d be inclined to drop him off then park at one of the park and ride places and walk in.

They’ll be totally sold out and won’t be any spaces. There are a few small private car parks nearby if you don’t want to park at centertainment

SendARavenToRiverRun · 14/02/2023 21:45

I wouldn't risk centretainment. They do check. Extra trams will be laid on from the arena back to meadowhall. If not there are buses but annoyingly in the opposite direction to the tram stop. One option would be to walk to the pub opposite (next to Starbucks) and get a city taxi from there. 01142393939. I'd try to book in advance though as it gets really busy. It's not fair. Will be about £6 in a taxi.

Getting there that would be fine it's just after, he will be able to get the tram fine I was just wondering if it would be a long wait after the show (yes Peter Kay on Friday so v busy!).

Think we will have to go with the park and ride and hope we get a tram ok after.

If there's extra trams then hopefully we will be ok!

Thanks all

Centertainment has a time limit on parking and they are a bit more on it when events are on. Plus it gets very busy . We did Meadowhall park n ride was really easy. It's literally a minutes walk from car park to tram. Then tram drops off in arena grounds. We waits a few min on way there and about ten min for way back. Much quicker than the arena queues.

ThisNameIsNotAvailable · 14/02/2023 21:50

We are going too, I probably need to think about parking 😂

SendARavenToRiverRun · 14/02/2023 21:51

They'll usually hold (or add extra) trams but I doubt your dad would get a seat. It's usually packed in like sardines.

RampantIvy · 14/02/2023 21:58

Does your dad have a blue badge? It is worth trying to see if you can book a parking spot at the arena. If not park at the park and ride at Meadowhall and get a tram. Although, the car park there isn't very large. The other option is to drive down Sheffield Parkway and park at Nunnery Square which has a huge car park.

In my experience there are far more trams going back into town than going towards Meadowhall after a gig. Often a tram comes up from town then runs back into town from the arena, so thinking about it further I would recommend that you park at Nunnery Square and get a tram from there. The tram stop is right next to the car park.

No he doesn't, he is fine on his feet and will be ok standing on a tram back he just wouldn't want to walk all the way back, will take a look at the other park and ride thanks.

We went recently, arrived early and they had on the day parking available. Apparently once the coaches/production vehicles have arrived they know how much space they have left and sell off the extra. There's an awesome chicken grill opposite-go early and get your tea :)

imtheglue · 14/02/2023 22:06

We were at the arena a month ago, parking had sold out online but there was availability on the day. We didn’t park there but went over the bridge and parked on the road for free 5 minutes walk away.

WhiteFire · 14/02/2023 22:20

We were then last week, I paid for the car park but a friend had recommended the park and ride, she said Nunnery road was probably a better option as the platform seemed quieter that way.

terriblepotato · 14/02/2023 22:30

Try the Premier Inn next to the arena. We went for Young Voices a couple of weeks ago and did park and ride from Meadowhall then walked back, but a couple of friends said they pre-booked the car park at the Premier Inn. I'm sure they said it was only about a fiver!

Nat6999 · 15/02/2023 03:37

Look where the pub was across the main road at the other side of the island, it closed down last week, otherwise get there early & park at the arena.

My son got 2 CCJs he only found out about when checking his credit score for parking at Centertainment car park for an arena event. He didn't see the letters has he been staying with me for 6-months (he was in between training and a permanent position at work).

They do check on event nights.

Cunty2Flaps · 15/02/2023 05:28

That was for 2 arena events, not one event.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 15/02/2023 06:50

I got to events at Sheffield Arena several times a year (ice hockey) We just turn up and park on the evening. It's cheaper if you book it on the website beforehand, which they recommend for events that are not ice hockey - parking
