If you run/ exercise - when do you do it?!

I'd like to try and get more fit but I genuinely don't know when I'd fit it in my day. We get up at 5 anyway - DH to walk the dog, he gets back 5.30ish so I wouldnt have time to run and then get ready before we leave. After school I've picked DC up and then we are doing homework/ dinner and DH isn't home until 7.30/ 8 most nights and I'm exhausted. Any suggestions?

Whenever I can, so some days it's at 7am, sometimes just before lunch/over lunchtime, sometimes just before pickup and I run straight to school, sometimes during after-school club and sometimes in the evening. Having a set time wouldn't work for me. I stick to 5ks during the week as they take about half an hour and then do a 5k on a Sat and a 10k or longer on a Sunday. I tell myself that once I've got my running kit on I'm out the door and that's that. I run from the house, always have, whether living in urban or rural settings...

@Orangeba I live mid terrace and neither of my neighbours have said anything about me or DH crashing about doing Les Mills workouts. TBH it’s 30-45 mins and not like it’s in the middle of the night so even if they can hear I don’t think it’s unreasonable. It’s a great app!

OP, explain why you can't do it at 5 or 530, seeing as you are up? Or 6, if you want to go out when your DH gets back?

You can easily fit in a run of class & be back by 7, surely still time to get ready?

(I get up at 520, class by 6, home c710. I'm a single parent so only time I can do it, DC are up when I get back, then pretty hectic hour for us all & we leave variously between 8 & 820)

I run but I am actually very lazy about getting up early especially in winter. If I actually got up at 5 I'm sure I'd try and do it then. In the summer when it's light I occessionally go for a 20 min run in the morning before work.

I generally go at any time between 7 and 8pm, 2 or 3 times a week and a sociable long run with friends on a Sunday morning.
When DC were younger I used to do some YouTube workouts (Joe Wicks, fitness blender etc) sone are about 15 or 20 min so easier to fit in, or drop them at a class and run from there.

I run or do a gym class when the DC are at swimming, diving, karate, football etc. Luckily their clubs are usually at/next to the local leisure centre so it's easy. They do complain sometimes that I don't watch them, but they're tweens and old enough for me to explain that I've done years of watching and need to regain my fitness. I do watch sometimes though!

Whenever I can. I work 40-50 hours, DH works shifts. I squeeze 2-3 hours a week of exercise in. Lots of running in the dark once DDs are in bed!

SgtCawood · 14/02/2023 18:28

I go first thing before work, depending on shifts - I am rubbish at running after work and then there are childcare issues in the evenings.

Could you run at 5 and DH takes dog when you get back? Alternate days maybe. Seems a bit rubbish he gets all the exercise and fresh air time.
