I bought custard, but forgot to buy a dessert

I'm just back from the supermarket and I have some lovely fresh vanilla custard. I was intending to get some sort of sponge or pie dessert to go with it but have the short-term memory of a mushroom so didn't. I don't want to bake anything, what could I have that would be good with hot custard over it?

Came here to say I may have to steal the "short term memory of a mushroom" line as that is incredible and accurately describes me!

But also, anything other than bananas and custard is sacrilege.

do you have butter, oats, sugar?

make quick crumble under the grill.

I'm currently attempting to brûlée my custard. It's not going well as my grill is pathetic.

If very lazy, then breakfast granola (knobbly type) plus cold custard. Or rather, bowl of cold custard topped with your granola. V g.

I'm now reminded that I have been intermittently angry about my lack of a proper grill for over a decade now. We replaced the kitchen when we moved here and I told the kitchen designer that I grill a lot and wanted a dedicated grill. He assured me that the grill included in the oven was just as good as a stand alone, but he was WRONG. He was a parent at DC's primary school so at least had the opportunity to set him straight, possibly several times. Grin

Warm custard with broken up dark chocolate digestives mixed in is mine and DHs pudding of choice recently

I could only find muscovado sugar, which I don't think works as well. Also because the grill is feeble it had to be under for quite a long time so the custard is warm. Still, an effort was made.

I used to say that I had the short term memory of a goldfish, but further research revealed that they can remember things for months and therefore have a significantly better memory than me. Grin

Even if fish had the 3 second memory they are believed to have, my mind these days is more suited to a mushroom, anyway.
