Does anyone/anyone's DC do cubing comps?

Dc1 wants to go to one, not to spectate but to compete. He is pretty good at solving 2x2 and 3x3 cubes, but not in the sane league as speedcubers! Plus, he's 7...

I'd prefer him to go to spectate but he's set on competing.

I'd be really grateful to hear from anyone with experience!

Make sure to check this one www.worldcubeassociation.org/ instead, the UK one isn't updated reliably (according to my DH).

@theoldhasgone we have seen that documentary too many times. 🤣 He definitely needs to find his tribe. He goes to a very very small school (88 pupils) and is well above his age, he's very bright, remembers everything, struggles with friends, is sensitive, there are definite signs there....so, I wouldnt be surprised if there was something.

He wants ALL the cubes . Bought himself a megaminx this week !

We first went to a competition just to observe because we happened to be in the area and my DH was interested. During the course of the day, someone opened their backpack that absolutely FULL of multiple cubes and weird shaped twisty puzzles. My DH just lit up and started glowing and I thought, 'My life will never be the same.' 😂Now😂

I'm so pleased I posted, I was really worrying about it but now I'm feeling much better. He'll be in his element I think. Considering booking a hotel...

Yes, get excited! The logistics of a younger sibling are likely to be trickier than the actual event. A hotel is a good idea. Sometimes the finals are on the second day so if he desperately wanted to stay for those that would make it easier.

Annoyingly it seems the 2x2 and pyraminx are day 1, with 3x3 day 2. I will take him day 1 and hoping his dad will take him day 2 (divorced, his contact day). I'm happy to go both days but depends on his dad.

Sibling thinks he wants to go, but will almost certainly regret it.

Update - he had an AMAZING time. Sibling was so well behaved, no drama, boredom, or anything else.

Ds - had a ball. Had a few disappointing times but I'd given the talk that it was his first time, the aim was to record his own times, and mostly to enjoy himself. And he really really did. So pleased we went and already looking forward to the next one!

That is such good news!

Adrenaline and unfamiliarity of environment usually means your competition times are not as good as the ones in your bedroom 😊

Brilliant, that's great to hear @Bemyclementine . I think my dc is hooked now too
