Pregnant and new job

Hi, I’m 2 months through a 3 month notice period and have just found out I’m pregnant. I’m due to start new job in a month. The new job has a 6 month probation period. What would you do in this situation? We’ve been trying for DC for so long that I had completely given up hope of it ever happening. I am delighted but also really concerned about the timing of everything.

Just be honest.

Would you tell new job up front about pregnancy? I’m worried they will fail my probation period if they know from the off.

No because it's extremely early days. Tell them after 12 weeks.

Well this would be illegal.

It may be illegal but lots of workplaces still seem to discriminate against pregnant women. I’m wondering if it best to see if I can cancel my notice at my current job. It’s all a messs

You should also check what maternity pay you’d be entitled to at both workplaces, depending on what you can afford.

Unfortunately you’re right, it would be discrimination to dismiss you because of your pregnancy, but that doesn’t mean they can’t engineer another reason instead.

Congratulations on your pregnancy Flowers

In current job I would get enhanced maternity package in new job I get nothing. If I ask to withdraw my resignation they might not accept it so may well be forced to take new job. If I do I was going to wait until last possible moment I can (15 weeks before) to tell them. Which may sour relationship but should in theory mean they are less likely to fail my probation. If I can get positive feedback from them up to that point I suppose.
