Please help - need a new mattress urgently - advice please

Short story, I purchased a really top quality mattress from a local bed shop, had it delivered on Thursday last week and since then I’ve not been able to sleep comfortably or sometimes not at all. It’s a medium firm pocket sprung mattress, 2000 pocket springs but just feels way too firm and unyielding for me as a side sleeper although I’m quite overweight on the hips. I know new mattresses need to be broken in but this is ridiculous and I’ve already got a super comfy John Lewis topper on it.

I can’t return it, but I’ve promised DS 9 an upgrade to a double bed soon and he really likes it because he sleeps on his front and he’s only going to get bigger!

My question is where can I get a decent medium comfort pocket sprung mattress delivered quickly, preferably within the next couple of days? I’ve never used any of the online mattress retailers before. Do any of the them offer a comfort guarantee? I’ve seen one online at John Lewis but they can’t deliver until Thursday. Comes with a 60 night trial. I can’t get to any shops to try due to disability.

We recently purchased an ikea mattress to replace our Eve mattress (which is horrendously uncomfortable!)

We’ve got this one from IKEA on our spare bed. Everyone who sleeps on it says it’s really comfortable.

We have the Hovag from IKEA on our bed, but they don’t do that one anymore, however it’s the most comfortable mattress I’ve ever slept on so I do believe everyone who says the other one is comfy.

Another vote for Ikea. Are you close enough to go and test them out in the showroom?

We bought this for my DD, then went back and bought 2 more for both my boys.
When our mattress needs replacing, I will get one for our bed too. It is available in Firm or medium firm.

My last emergency mattress was delivered by Argos.

Cant advise as such, but be very careful with online retailers and their claims for delivery- we ordered a new bed frame and mattress last year, was told 10 Wk’s for delivery, eventually after 3 or 4 times cancelled delivery’s the fram turned up at around the 6 month mark, but they couldn’t say when the mattress would arrive, I demanded a refund and purchased from a local bed shop and was delivered a few days later.
the retailer we used was oak furniture land, most of their products online said 8-10wks for delivery- couldn’t of been further from the truth!!

my advice is find a retailer and type their name into trust pilot website to see reviews and see if people are complaining about delivery times or anything.

Wareen Evans is good though I don't know how quickly they could deliver. Probably depends when they are in your area.
If you don't like the mattress after sleeping on it they will take it back, amazing service. I did this and they accepted it without a quibble, and sent another one which suited me more.

That looks like it could work. How firm do you find the the medium firm. I need a mattress with some support due to being a size 16 but I need cushioning for my hips and shoulders for side sleeping but not something that sinks.

I’ve just checked . IKEA could deliver to me by Wednesday.

It's difficult to describe but you don't sink into it and yet it's comfortable.

I can actually feel my spine and hips being supported when I lie on it. I've noticed that I sleep better and my posture is better too!

If that makes sense! I'm struggling to explain. It comes rolled up and I was able to lie on it the night it was delivered x

I've made a couple of expensive mattress mistakes so feel your pain.

DS has an IKEA Hovag mattres and its wonderful. As above, its been replaced by another name, you can either Google this or ask them in Live Chat.

The good thing with an ikea mattress is the 90 day love it or return it policy. So if you don't like it you can exchange it for a different one.

The Valevag is the one that’s replaced the Hovag according to Google. I’ve got problems with my back, hips and pelvis and am a side sleeper, I find our mattress really comfy. However as I’m quite small and have never slept on the Valevag I’ve just asked DH because he gets sent in the spare room when he’s snoring. He’s, also, a side sleeper, he said it doesn’t sink at all and provides him with all the support he needs for his lower back ache and sore shoulder.

Thank you @TheFairyCaravan thats really helpful. I’m currently sat on my new mattress trying to break it in! It’s a lovely quality mattress and I think that may be the problem. Since being a child, then a student, to finally being able to afford a decent mattress in my mid 40s, I’m too used to rubbish mattresses. I should really give this one more time to adapt to my body shape. It’s easy to say that now and not 1am when I can’t sleep.

I’m thinking about getting a foam topper but I hate memory foam. Can anyone recommend a decent foam topper that doesn’t mould to your body the way memory foam does? Thank you!

My daughter (side sleeper, very light) has this mattress and I agree it is very comfortable.

I should say I have slept on it too as a side sleeper and it was comfortable for me as well.
