Moving house is so stressful. I need encouragement

I have one day to move all of my stuff. I can't afford a removals van so am going back and forth with my car and my friend with a van is helping me move big stuff. I'm moving from furnished to unfurnished so am going to have a whole heap of boxes and bags laying around as I can't afford to buy all the storage units in one go. I'm going to be living in chaos for a while and am finding it so, so stressful. I've paid for an end of tenancy clean so at least that is one thing I don't have to do. Anyone have any tips re how to find this a little less overwhelming? Doesn't help that I have a 4 year old with me most of the time! Help 😅

I've not got any words of wisdom. We've been living out of boxes for a couple of weeks and I've had a massive melt down today. I'm sat with a bottle of wine wondering if I've made the right decision. We move this coming Saturday....

Have you got someone who could look after your 4 year old? Are you in rental or home owned?

I haven't unfortunately. Only during the day when I'm at work. I'm in a rental.

Ok at least rental you haven’t got a time deadline to move out have you? Just do as much as you can the days leading up to and grab as many friends you can to help on moving day. Good luck in your new home 💐

We moved recently and based on experience and advice on here I would advise the usual stuff;

Declutter ruthlessly so there is less to take

Pack things by room/type

Label boxes with room plus quick over view on what's in there

Label the boxes with priority levels for things you need immediately and things that can be neatly stacked until you have the storage/ time/ will to live to empty them.

Good luck, it will be exhausting but you can do it!

No words of wisdom. But solidarity. I’ve been there several times. My eldest is 21 now. We packed up a house in a single day once when he was 11 and his younger sib four. It was horrendous at the time. But we did get through. And we remember it with pride now. It will be okay. It will have to be. It’s a new beginning. You’ll get there. My kind thoughts and best wishes are with you!

recommend keeping an eye on Facebook, gumtree free cycle for cupboards and chests of drawers etc going free/ cheap. Doesn’t have to match to start with, just gets things away.
also veg boxes from the supermarket often stack and can make shelves with a bit of care in a pinch

Just accept it will be crazy for a while and that is normal!

just make sure you’ve got three areas which are pretty sane: bedroom, living room and kitchen. By that I mean the boxes are stacked somewhere and you have some space to sleep, eat and cook. I don’t mean the whole room.

Just focus on one job at a time. Move all your stuff. Then set up the bed for your DC and yourself. Have kitchen stuff such as a kettle, some plates etc, so you can make a cup of tea and toast.
then set up the living room for TV etc.

In terms of storage, I would see if you can get any freebies for now.

but ultimately it will get there, just takes time like all these things.
