How much for joint present

I have a 40th birthday party coming up for a friend and we're organizing a present as a group. How much would you contribute? We're not close friends.

Where is the party? Is the birthday girl paying for a venue, food and drinks? If so, i would chip in £20. If it's a party with no food, you're paying for your drinks etc, £10 should do it. I am a generous person, but life is teaching me a lot of others are cheapskates so as much as it goes against my nature, you need to respond in kind!

No, we're all paying our own costs to attend. I was thinking £10, but wasn't sure if that was a bit tight, even though we're not close. What the hell, there's a cost of living crisis, don't you know!
