Do you prefer your own company?

I've decided or should I say discovered that i really prefer my own company. I've recently started a job in which I now have my evenings free (yay) but now I have friends wanting to meet for walks/ dinner /coffee dates etc during the week. Now while im grateful for lovely friends, number 1 I don't really enjoy going out after work and 2 I really just prefer lounging about relaxing in my own company. I find as I get older I really need that time to unwind and just decompress. Anyone else the same? I feel like a semi recluse lol

100%. Absolutely love sitting quietly and not being obliged to interact with people.

Euchariahere · 12/02/2023 20:01

Me 😎

NutYourPlace · 12/02/2023 20:02

Totally!

For me I think it's been a combination of getting older and the intensity of the covid lockdowns.

AllAboutMargot · 12/02/2023 20:02

I have lovely friends and a DH, but to be on my own, is my favourite thing.

CoodleMoodle · 12/02/2023 20:05

Yep. I love being with my DC, DH, DM and everyone else close to me... but I'm happiest by myself. To be able to do whatever I want, not have to think about how it's affecting anybody else, not have to chat if I don't feel like it - bliss!

the80sweregreat · 12/02/2023 20:06

I like to be alone too. Not all the time and I would hate to live alone tbh, but time by myself is precious. I think it's good to mix it up.

butterfliedtwo · 12/02/2023 20:08

I've been on my own all day writing. Great.

Yesterday I was with good friends all day. Equally enjoyed that.

For me it's a question of balance.

Johnisafckface · 12/02/2023 20:09

I do most of the time. It’s prob why I have never lived with anyone, my ex wanted me to move in with him and the thought of having to be in the same space with him every day filled me with dread. So he moved on and found someone who actually wants to live with him 😂

bunbapandonion · 12/02/2023 20:15

I think I get enough adult stimulation from being at work. I just love pottering about doing what I want. Equally I love sticking my headphones in and walking. I've never had lots of friends, only maybe 2/3 close friends. I think people must see this reclusive trait in me lol im really bubbly and chatting in work so I do have lots of companions but not many close friends. If I won a holiday for 5 friends I'd struggle who to bring lol 😂

Yes! It's my favourite thing. Love my family but if I have a choice of a free day I spend it alone.

IWasFunBeforeMum · 12/02/2023 20:18

I used to hate being alone but now with 2 kids all day I loooove my own time!

FellPuck · 12/02/2023 20:28

I feel similarly, I deeply enjoy my own company and can spend long stretches alone with no problems.

However, I recognise that having relationships with other people is also really enriching and that they require effort and regular maintenance so I force myself to participate. I think it would be too easy to slip into a reclusive comfort zone, as nice as that sounds.

SpringIntoChaos · 12/02/2023 20:41

I'm 💯 this OP...always have been. I'm a primary teacher, so have to do LOTS of talking, problem sorting, 'smiling' (often when I least feel like it too 😬) all day!

I don't really socialise at work - stay out of the staff room unless making a quick cup of tea - and crave the silence when I leave school in the evening. Love being able to turn off 'Mary Poppins' and become Miss Grumpy Knickers when I get in my car 🤣😍

BrendaWearingBaffies · 12/02/2023 20:47

I love my own company. Sitting with a jigsaw or reading. Can't beat it.

Tink1990 · 12/02/2023 20:48

I enjoy meeting friends for a ponder or activity. But at home, I do just love to be alone! I don't know if that makes sense. But I really enjoy living alone, and not sure I would appreciate living with a partner anymore... I love my own space, then seeing friends but knowing I can come back to my peaceful little home 😊

StarDolphins · 12/02/2023 20:56

I absolutely love time alone & I’m my own best friend. I love my
dd & my friends, chatting to the school mums & all my neighbours. I consider myself sociable but my favourite thing to do is to have time by myself to choose what I do, absolute bliss!

I’m definitely a ‘in small doses’ person!

FiddleLeaf · 12/02/2023 21:04

100% the same. I like to decompress at home on working evenings… and every Sunday… sometimes the Saturday too. Introverts unite!

WeWereInParis · 12/02/2023 21:44

Yep - I'm a delight :)

DramaAlpaca · 12/02/2023 21:48

Yes. I love being alone, I'm very boring.

Work is very sociable and I have to be 'on' all day, so when I get home I just like to chill by myself if I have the opportunity.
