Can anyone help with my DVLA log book question?

My car broke down, is not repairing, and I need a new one asap as it’s necessary for work.

However I have realised that I didn't change my details when I moved house six months ago. I need to change address and also name (due to a typo) so I have to send my driving license and logbook away by post and it could take 6 weeks to process.

So my question is, can I buy a new car if the address on my driving license is out of date, and if the address of my new car’s log book doesn’t match up with my existing car’s log book? (I won’t sell / scrap the old car yet, I’ll go through the process to update the old logbook etc, but in the meantime I still need to buy a new car).

Anyone know?

I dont think it matters. I bought a new (to me) car in 2021 and I don't think my driving licence featured at all in the process.

If you're scrapping your old car, it won't matter what address is on its log book. I can't see why it would matter if you were seling it either (except to the buyer as part of their due diligence in checking paperwork but you'd be able to evidence old vs new address).

The one that matters is getting your driving licence up-to-date. If the police ask to see it at any point, you'll get a telling-off and potentially a large fine.
