Affordable clean, modern hotel in the NW?

First world problem - So sick of going to hotels that look lovely, then finding them to be shabby/dated/dirty.

Such a disappointment when you've saved up and been really looking forward to it.

Money is tight, it's not something we get to do often, but we have the chance to get away for one night child free in the summer. I've spent hours trawling the internet and carefully going through the reviews and all seem to be billed as tired/dirty. I can't afford 5*.

Anyone found an affordable little gem in the northwest? Preferably with pool.

Less than £180pn...🤞

North Lakes Hotel and Spa, Penrith is lovely, great pool, lovely rooms. Outside is bland and does not do the inside justice.
They do a Sunday offer of a cut price room with breakfast and a 25% on the dinner menu.

Another Place on Ullswater
Inn on the Lake, also Ullswater
Beech Hill on Windermere usually have a deal on and they’ve got a lovely spa with a rooftop triple size hot tub overlooking the lake

Stayed at the midland in Manchester last year, it was beautiful 😊 it was about 140 a night.
Also opposite end of the spectrum, stayed at the queens Inn in hawkshead in the lakes and that was just fab. Lovely rooms, comfy bed, gorge pub downstairs with board games and nice food, short drive to some nice walks etc. That was similar price, around 130.

Also...James Street Hotel in Liverpool is fab, and the Shankly. Quite often have deals on too on their website.

Are you driving? If so have a look at Thornton Hall on the Wirral.
I may be biased because I live close by but within a 10 mile radius of the hotel there is plenty to do and see.
The hotel has a pool and spa and lovely grounds, gets consistently good reviews and has very good value offers. You could definitely do worse than spend a night there

Aphrodites in Bowness but I'm not sure if it's in your price range. All rooms have private hot tubs and spa baths - it's lovely!

There's also a pool and they do room-service breakfast or you can eat in the dining room.

Hope Street Hotel in Liverpool. Opposite the Philharmonic Hall and 5-10 min walk from the centre of town.
