Whole new bed or just new mattress?

Our bed is a double divan with 4 drawers. No idea what sort of mattress is on top but it's certainly nothing fancy. We got it 17 years ago and it wasn't hugely expensive. It definitely doesn't feel as comfy any more, I don't feel any loose springs or anything but it creaks quite a bit! and most importantly I wake up (even through the night) with pains in my hip and leg. I only get these pains at night so I'm wondering if it's the bed? If so do we need to shell out for a whole new bed including the base or will a new mattress be enough? I know if I go to a store I'll get the hard sell from the salesperson so just want to get some real-life feedback. Thanks.

bumping for the afternoon crew!

hoping to get some feedback that a new mattress on an old base will be just fine 😉

Have always just replaced the mattress on my divan type bed as base ok
Lots of mattresses in box type opinions out there now with good trial periods might be the way to go
Saves the hard sell

If ur bed is 17 yrs old I'm inclined to say replace it all. I'd abide ottoman storage underneath with gas loft. It holds so much the best thing ever! Also looks absolutely beautiful!

This is the one I bought. They were about £1,500-£2,000 in the shops but got it from a company on eBay and it's beautiful, we had no issues.

Thanks, I like the idea of the ottoman storage but the 4 drawers we currently have hold a lot of stuff and I think the base is in good condition. I'm more concerned about the mattress and I think I'd like to see them in a shop and lie on them before buying rather than buy online. We also spent a bit of money on a lovely headboard a couple of years ago so I'd like to keep that!

I'd def recommend getting a mattress in a shop. We went round quite a few places and I love the one we have. It's firm but soft. The top layer is built in memory foam. You really need to try them out def! I bought previous mattress online and I'd never do it again!

It all depends on your budget. It no doubt needs replacing after 17 years though.

We recently bought a Hypnos bed as I was having a lot of back pain. I had slept on a Hypnos bed before when staying in Premier Inns, and they are unbelievably comfortable!

Two months on and my back pain has disappeared and get out of bed without a twinge. We did get the ottoman base as I struggled to access two of the drawers in the old base, it's amazing how much stuff you can store there.
