I’m having a shit day..
I got caught speeding today so that’s a £100 fine
I’ve been informed today I owe HMRC £250 from previous tax years, this cannot be amended through my current tax code so I’ve had to set up a payment plan to finish in December.
My old employer messed up my wages a few months ago so I owe the DWP £450 for overpaid UC and I was assured the deductions would be low as we are struggling at the moment but it’s knocked an essential £150 off of my payment next week I need to pay my rent.
I have £800 credit card debt which I pay off at £50 a month which feels like it’s never going to end.
We booked a holiday before any of this came to light at owe £800 before the end of July.
And lastly I was due to have an oven delivered today but it came and it wasn’t big enough so back to air fryer cooking for the whole family. And now having to rearrange another cooker with my landlady who lives overseas.
Over half of my wage goes on childcare and it just feels like it’s never ending cycle of shit, being in debt and owing money to people and it’s just made me sad and worried.
I’m fully aware the speeding Ticket is my own doing but I just feel shit and just needed to vent.

I'm really sorry - it sounds like it's all hit at once and I bet it feels overwhelming.

On the flip side, it sounds like you aren't burying your head in the sand, you do have a handle on things (payment plan for the holiday etc) so if you just keep plodding forward, one day you won't be paying for childcare, you will have a new oven, etc.

It must just feel like head down for now and keep forging on, which I appreciate feels shit right now. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and you have your holiday to look forward to. (And if you're not looking forward to it maybe consider cancelling it and pay off other debts, if that would give you more happiness and peace of mind than taking the holiday?)

Is there any capacity for increasing the family income coming into the pot? Extra shifts, second job evenings/weekends in hospitality, anything like that?
