Long/periods

Hoping to find anyone who may have had a similar issue!

Currently on day 6 of my period, and bleeding as if I'm on day 4.

For the last few months my periods have become pretty irregular, occurring once every two months or so and when I do get them, they're a day or two longer than usual.

My normal cycle used to be around 30-31 days with a 6 day bleed. Since mid last year I've been skipping every other period and having a 7 day bleed, this month seems like it may be longer than that.

I wondered if it may be to do with my weight? I put on 2-3 stone last year, but not sure if this would make me bleed for longer.

I'm not registered with the GP yet but will be soon, if anyone can help in the meantime I would be grateful 🥲

How old are you?
Have you had Covid? My periods went a bit funny for a while after I had covid which is quite common. And there are lots of reports of period disruption following vaccination too.

Weight gain could affect them too but definitely see GP incase.

Snickers94 · 09/02/2023 14:35

I'm 28, I've had Covid twice and the vaccine did affect my period initially but I can't imagine it would mess them up for this long? I don't know!

My periods have been really heavy since finishing breastfeeding. I've made some small dietary changes which seem to have helped (eating a protein heavy breakfast being the biggest difference).

I'm about 2st above my ideal weight and my periods were so much more manageable when I was smaller!

The weird thing is, mine haven't super heavy - a bit more clotty this month than usual but kind of like a normal period just a longer and 60 day cycles. I did have a baby in 2021 and my body has just not been the same since then

Go to the docs. They're might be an underlying cause. Also just to get your iron levels checked if you are bleeding heavily.

Hello, just reviving this thread with an update. I had my hormone levels, blood count, prolactin, hbA1c and thyroid checked to see if this might be causing my irregular cycles. The doctor didn't mention anything about me bleeding for 11 days.

The results were all normal. I'm thinking of going for a private ultrasound to check if I might have fibroids, but has anyone experienced long and irregular cycles with hormone levels being normal?! I'm at a loss for why this might be.

*just to add, I only bled for 11 days during my last cycle. Most of the time I bleed for 6. The 2 times I've had Covid I've bled for 7, and in December I also bled for 7 but I had also been quite ill before that with God knows what. Didn't test for Covid so it could have been that.

Since this time last year, I have had back to back periods. Some lasting for a couple of month or maybe even more. It's now been a year and I still have no answers.

I am still currently breastfeeding my 19 month old baby and I do have PCOS. Could this be why? After having some discussions with multiple doctors, I have researched that metformin helps regulate hormone levels, so I am on that as I speak. (I have had internal ultrasound, polyp was seen but second scan it was gone)

I have got a Gyno appointment coming up, so I'm hoping to get some clear answers.

just would like to know if anyone else is going through this.
