Overdosed on metformin... Will I be ok??

I usually take 2x 500mg tablets once a day. I picked up this months prescription yesterday and noticed I've been given 1000mg tablets not 500mg. Without thinking, I've taken 2x 1000mg this morning. I've only just realised as I've come to do my pill box up for the week!

Took at 8am. I've had a headache and feeling a little nauseous all day and not wanted to eat but that happens sometimes anyway with me.

Will I be ok??

I would phone 111 and ask.

I was on 4x500mg, so hopefully be fine. Call your gp to ask.

side effects I had were stomach issues

You'll be fine. I'm on 1000mg slow release, twice daily. I double dosed one morning (adhd brain), and felt a bit nauseous, but I checked my blood sugar levels throughout the day and I didn't die. Obviously. I'd be typing remarkably well for a dead person.

The worst thing likely to happen, is you experience diarrhoea and the dose you’ve taken is still within therapeutic parameters. If you have a poor kidney function, it can be more dangerous. hypoglycaemia is usually only seen in doses 4.5 times more than what you’ve had OP. Basically you’ll be fine and you’ve caught your mistake quickly.

Did your surgery or pharmacy not alert you to the change? If not, it might be a good idea to tell them and ask that in future they make sure to tell you of any changes.
