I'm in the market for a new mattress and I want it to be AMAZING. My last one was £800 and was very good but I'm sure there's better out there. It wasn't perfect. I'd be thrilled if I could get a better one cheaper than this.

Hit me with your recommendations!

It's a kingsize

Sorry can’t help but I thought this was a baby names thread at first and was thinking “Tempur” is an odd name, where’s that from

octoberfarm · 08/02/2023 03:15

Another one who thought this was a baby name thread and thought for God's sake please don't call your child "Tempur" when she saw the title 😂 Sorry I have no actual useful info on the mattress stuff!

We've just bought a new Tempur mattress and it cost an absolute fortune. About 2 grand. But it's a dream. I think these things are so personal. Get you and other half to a bed shop and try them out. Lie down for a long time, not 30 seconds. Lie on your side if that's how you sleep. I kept getting my DH to jiggle up and down because he's a fidgeter and disturbs me. When we found the one where he did it, and I didn't move, we bought it!

BigBunkers · 08/02/2023 06:44

We’ve got an Emma and I love it. It doesn’t feel traditionally comfy, it doesn’t squish when you get in, it’s quite firm but oh my god it’s so comfortable

risefromyourgrave · 08/02/2023 06:55

The one thing I would say about Tempur is, if they haven’t changed it, they are like sleeping on the sun in summer. They are super sweaty. But they are amazingly comfy the rest of the year.

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 08/02/2023 07:16

I wouldn't buy Emma on principle due to the ridiculous amount they give away to Instagram so called influencers.

We have a super king Tempur, cost over 2k in 2018 but it's like sleeping on clouds. It's ruined me for any other beds.

My DD has a Nectar mattress from eBay which is also very comfortable.

Popetthetreehugger · 08/02/2023 07:27

We got an Emma king size ottoman bundle last week , bed is great ( although getting a king size anything up two flights of spiral staircase is not to be recommended) but wouldn’t use again as sales and after care are crap . We ended up watching random people on YouTube to sort out issues. So yes it’s good , but , does it warrant price in comparison to others ? Not in my opinion 🤷‍♀️

follyfoot37 · 08/02/2023 09:06

Most of these are much of a muchness
But if you are anywhere near menopause, don't get one! They keep you v warm normally, so having a hot flush while in one is horrendous!

FenghuangHoyan · 08/02/2023 09:18

I've got an Emma king size and can't say I.m overjoyed with it. Its certainly not AMAZING...which is what I hoped it would be.

I find it tends to develop a "trench" where you lay and you have to keep turning it round so the trench is at the bottom of the bed. I also find its a bit too firm for me and my body where its touching the mattress aches after a while. I have had the "soft" topper added as well, but its still not very good.

I dont tend to wake up with aches and pains, but I dont wake up feeling refreshed. My kids both have Emma mattresses and they seem to like them, but those are single mattresses. I dont think the memory foam technology works so well for big beds. Another thing is that although there isn't "roll together", there is "pulling on the mattress cover" which pulls at the mattress cover I'm lying on and isn't wonderful.

Oh and as someone has said, if you've got a fever or anything then you know about it.

So in short, its not amazing. Its just about acceptable.

nomorechoco · 08/02/2023 09:30

We had an Eve one and it's soooo hard. Even with a soft topper it was murder on my hips. They have a try and buy thing though. At least they did. We now have a tempur. Dreamy!

Toddlerteaplease · 08/02/2023 09:33

I bought a Hyde and Sleep mattress. It's similar but slightly cheaper than the Emma ones. It was a nightmare to unpack as it's so big and has no handles. The cover ripped and they sent me a new one. But it's so unwieldy I couldn't get it on. It's a bit hard. So got a panda mattress topper. That drive me mad as it kept moving. I've now taken it off and actually the mattress is ok again!

Toddlerteaplease · 08/02/2023 09:33

But I will never buy a mattress in a box again.

Twizbe · 08/02/2023 09:37

I also thought it was a baby name thread lol

ethelredonagoodday · 08/02/2023 09:41

If you're a warm sleeper, i'd avoid any that have memory foam. We bought an Eve and had to send it back as it was an absolute sweat-fest every night. 🤢

We went for a loaf mattress instead and it's great.

AccountPlease · 08/02/2023 09:41

Tempur is completely different from Eve and Emma though. You won’t be getting one for £800

Bluevelvetsofa · 08/02/2023 10:05

The newer Tempur mattresses don’t have the sweaty thing that previous incarnations did. Ours was expensive, but worth it to me.

Movinghouseatlast · 08/02/2023 10:08

Hotel Contract Beds Marquess is brilliant.

Emma is like a brick

GoldDuster · 08/02/2023 10:17

Emma and Eve aren't the same proposition as a Tempur in terms of quality, how long you'll get out of them, and definitely price. Go to Johnny Lewis and have a chat with the nice person there, and get on a few.

VegetablesFightingToReclaimTheAubergieneEmoji · 08/02/2023 10:23

We’ve got an emma.
its the most uncomfortable mattress I’ve ever slept on.

I wanted the ones from premier inn, but dh bought the emma.
he loves it, I’ve got back ache and hip ache despite them sending the softener - which I’ve double layered so sheets don’t fit anymore.

overwork · 08/02/2023 10:28

I've got an Otty mattress (similar to Emma etc), but 3 years in and it's really saggy. I looked up complaining to them but it basically said after 2 years they may degrade. Was fine at first, but I wouldn't recommend it (price wise it's fine but it can't be environmentally friendly having to change it every few years!)

PuttingOnTheKitsch · 08/02/2023 10:59

It's far from super expensive, but my Ikea mattress is the best I've ever slept on. I've had it for several years now and it's as good as new.

TheLastDreamOfTheOak · 08/02/2023 11:14

I have a tempur mattress-it literally changed my life. I'd suffered 17 years of back pain-and after two weeks sleeping on that I was pain free. Highly recommend!

TheLastDreamOfTheOak · 08/02/2023 11:16

I should say I got mine half off as it was the display one in John Lewis, so a grand. They steam cleaned it before sending it to me so it didn't bother me a bit and it had only been used as a tester for 4 months or so.

LER83 · 08/02/2023 12:26

I've just bought my ds an Eve hybrid which is very comfortable, may have accidently fallen asleep on it whilst testing it out! We got one from Bensons for beds n August last year, think its called Rollo or something like that, its amazing! I've had a bad back for years and it has really improved with this mattress, sleep like a log and don't feel dh moving about!
