If you're self employed, what do you do for a living?

I'm a mortgage broker at the moment and employed but it's really not my dream job, I sort of fell in to it as most people do in their careers.

Ideally I'd like to work for myself one day but I honestly have no idea what to even consider getting in to to be able to give me some sort of liveable income.

Any suggestions or inspiration welcome!

Most people I know who have done this have been well established in their careers. The friends I have that are self employed are 2 structural engineers, a quantity surveyor, a planner, 2 civil engineers, a financial consultant, and 3 illustrators.
