How do I unsquash dd2's ring??

I accidentally stood on it on Saturday evening, on our way out for tea. Put it in the handbag I took out & have just found it in my work bag 🤯 Not a clue how it got in there, we were almost at the bus stop when I stood on it & I've already replaced it thinking I'd lost it 🤷‍♀️

Anyway; any idea how to unsquish it? It was only cheap so preferably a free method?

@lucysmam

take to the jewellery shop!
or look on line for local repair

I wondered about taking it to a jewellery shop at the weekend but don't really want to pay. It was only £2 ish in the first place.

Find something round that roughly matches the ring size, like a marker pen, and try and reshape it around that. Get it nice and warm before trying - in a cup of hot water for 10 mins might do the trick. Be prepared for you attamept to ruin in beyond repair though, it looks pretty bad!

Buy her a new one that's going to break if you try and sqish it out. And if you do manage its just going to be weak. Just

I’m obviously looking at it wrong, that looks properly snapped to me!

Yep, this, especially if it was only £2. You'll be putting too much stress on the parts where it's been bent.

I can't work out what it's meant to look like either! It looks snapped to me too.

it was £2, OP. Just find a fat pen or a stick and try to bend it round that.

PrincessOfWhales · 07/02/2023 15:19

Maybe just bin it?!?

Thelnebriati · 07/02/2023 15:30

I used to make jewelry and I'm afraid it looks like the metal is so badly flattened it can't be put back into a ring shape. It will snap. If it were gold or silver it could be heated and reshaped by a jeweller.

LondonJax · 07/02/2023 15:38

I make jewellery too - not rings though. I agree with @Thelnebriati that it will probably snap. BUT...as that's a 50-50 chance I'd get a marker pen or something similar as suggested. Gently tap it with a soft covered mallet or put a towel/tea towel/kitchen towel around a normal small hammer just to protect against scratches. Go very lightly and gently. It may well snap anyway but if it doesn't, you've fixed it! Worth trying if it's important to DD and a replacement just won't be the same.

afinishedkiss · 07/02/2023 15:44

You have already replaced it? I don't get it? It's mushed and it was £2?

Also scratching my head a bit at this! She doesn’t need 2 surely, and it was £2!! Just get rid 🤔 - you’ve already bought a replacement, what are you going to do with this spare bent one if you manage to make it back into a ring shape? (Although to me it looks like it’s in 2 separate pieces!)
I must be missing something.
