The song and video are widely believed to be about her ex-husband with many references to their relationship and divorce. It’s generally been praised as strong, feminist, sending a great message and all that stuff.
Justin Timberlake did the same thing with Cry Me A River and was generally criticised for it to the extent he issued an apology to Britney Spears in recent years for being misogynistic.
Is this double standards? Should we be thinking about how Hemsworth might feel? Or are women so generally oppressed by men that one ‘getting their own back’ (as such) is not the same?
