Is this flu? Virus? Help

Honestly have never felt so ill in my life. Every bit of my body aches. My head feels like it's in a vice, my throat is agony and I can't swallow, temp is 39+. Feel thirsty but every time I try drinking (or taking painkillers) I'm sick. Yesterday I sat up for half an hour and had a massive nosebleed out of nowhere, big clots of blood.

It's been going on since Sunday night. I'm not very good at being ill - I work full time in a really demanding job and have two small kids so basically I don't have time! DH dealt with the kids yesterday - all I managed to do for work was email my boss (can't really remember what I said!) and then basically slept all day.

Is there any point in speaking to the doctor? I'm assuming it's some sort of virus - do I just have to let it run its course or is there something they can do to help make it go away?

It's not covid, I tested.

If it came on really quickly it's probably proper flu, I think that's how you can tell, could it be tonsillitis? That makes you feel properly poorly, if you can't swallow you might need to see someone

Have you tested for Covid? I had very similar symptoms last week but didn’t test positive until 48 hours has passed. Sorry you’re feeling so rough, it’s awful.

Thanks - will do another covid test in the morning. Somehow easier to tell work if it's covid than some unspecified virus.

Not sure what else can do, supposed to be in meetings all day tomorrow but I can barely stand up to go to the loo.

As long as you are keeping some liquid down then no need for GP just yet but if it persists for several days without improvement could
be an infection of some sort.
Small sips little and often .

I agree with PP, sounds like flu to me. Sending healing vibes.

Sound exactly like the covid infection I had. I tested positive 4 days after first onset of signs.
thee were other 4 people that I was with 2 days before at a dinner and who were ill with the same thing. They all tested negative.
im not sure how many tests they did and when, but I don’t believe they were negative as I was very positive!!

hope you feel better soon - sounds grim x

When doing your covid test be sure to swab the inside of your cheeks (near your molars) and your tonsils before swabbing your nose. The new variants are harder to pick up and mouth swabbing gives better results. Best done first thing before you eat or drink.

Good luck, hope you feel better soon and that your family avoid catching it.
