Own brand malt wheats - are they in stock anywhere?

I don't buy Shreddies as they are (a) expensive and (b) Nestle. I have for years bought the own brand equivalent from various supermarkets. At the moment they've disappeared from the Ocado website and they were nowhere to be seen at a Sainsbury's last week. Tesco website says out of stock there too. Does anybody know if there's a problem with whichever factory makes all the own brand malt wheats? TIA.

I bought some in Aldi at the weekend. I like their’s best tbh.

Thank you, I'll make the trek over there later this week.

I got some in aldi on Saturday, they had a shelf full.

ThePug · 06/02/2023 20:08

Haven't managed to get any in Sainsbury's for months (ditto their Cheerios/Hooplas), think they may have reduced their range of own-brand cereals annoyingly. Can still get them at Aldi.

Alcyone · 06/02/2023 20:11

I buy the Lidl brand but stock has been really sporadic for months.

Wildlynx · 06/02/2023 20:11

I've also been chasing fake shreddies and Cheerios. They have been in Lidl but not consistently (hoops today but no wheats) and am also struggling with ocado, I have weekly slot booked so when I remember I try to edit to add more wheats weeks in advance! The struggle is real 🤣

Fizbosshoes · 06/02/2023 20:11

I've noticed the own brand ones missing from sainsbury and tesco for weeks. Last week tesco only had giant packs of shreddies that a) are about £5 and b) won't fit in any cupboard.
This week I relented and bought a smaller packet. I might have to do an Aldi shop next time!

Thirder · 06/02/2023 20:13

I got Aldis version last week. One of the few own brand cereals I really like.
Don't have Aldis version of Weetabix, not as good.

MissyB1 · 06/02/2023 20:16

They were missing from Aldi for weeks, but are back in now.

Tarkan · 06/02/2023 20:17

We buy the Morrisons version and not had a problem finding them. I actually had them for my breakfast this morning. I definitely prefer them to Shreddies.

Stickstickstickstickstick · 06/02/2023 20:19

I’ve been doing this since November. I try Aldi, Tesco, M&S… nothing. I gave in and bought 1.1kg of Shreddies in a Tesco delivery last week and it’s such a huge box it just lives on the countertop. I’d love to know why I can’t get any!

That’s so weird, I’ve been able to get Malties/Rice Pops and Hooplas no problem!

we have huge problems getting hold of apricot wheats, which is the only breakfast cereal my child with food anxiety issues will eat, but the Kellogg's version is unacceptable as yucky, only the "own brand" version is any good - and one by one each supermarket is stopping doing them own brand and only stock kellogs now. we were down to just waitrose and M&S, now Waitrose has fallen. M&S officially still stocks it but is out of stock more often than not.

fruitpastille · 06/02/2023 20:31

I agree there's been an issue. Aldi has them back in now. I don't think sainsburys even do own brand ones. Staple food as all 3 children eat them and the teen often has extra at night time!

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 06/02/2023 20:33

There wasn’t any in Asda the other day too.

valentinaxo · 06/02/2023 20:34

Also noticed this and the lack of fresh, own brand filled pasta in sainsburys. What's going on I wonder?

BakedBear · 06/02/2023 20:55

There's a global wheat shortage due to the war in Ukraine and India banning wheat exports. Russia and Ukraine together produce around a quarter of the world's wheat exports.

IntentionalError · 06/02/2023 20:57

I bought some at Waitrose at the weekend.

greenbirdsong · 06/02/2023 21:00

We buy them too. So much cheaper.
My local Aldi hasn't had them for weeks!

HyacinthineMacaw · 06/02/2023 21:02

Morrisons ones have been out of stock online on and off for months. Just checked, and they are out of stock just now, too.

They're in stock for me as I'm currently sorting out our next delivery. Must depend on your area.

MaggieFS · 06/02/2023 21:37

We've got some from Sainsbury's in the last couple of weeks, but the availability is definitely intermittent.
