Does anyone remember the Missed Connections part of the Metro newspaper?

Had a memory of this earlier. It was like a lonely hearts style column that they put next to readers letters etc.

It would usually go something like “To the woman in the bottle green coat on the 0714 train from Newcastle to York, your smile made my day. Coffee?”

Were these genuine people? If so, does anyone know someone who wrote in (or recognised themselves) from one?

I remember this! Embarrassingly I used to read it every day hoping I would recognise a description of myself by some admirer!

There was a comedian who did a piece about sending made up ones of these in. Maybe Dave Gorman?

We had that in US on Craigslist. “I saw you in the grocery, you were in the freezer aisle near the ice cream. You glanced at me but I was too shy to say hello. Tell me what I was wearing.”

Some of them for my local transport system were so cringy. I would have hated to have recognized myself and then had to get the metro the next day looking nervously around for intense scary man
