Best comfort cake recipe

I want to bake a cake for dd tomorrow, she has had a bad cold, is feeling slightly better but still tired and pale. She has got a dreaded maths test tomorrow and I know she will be exhausted and in need of cheering up when she comes home after school.

What's your 'go to' cakes recipe to put the world right?

If you like lemons (I love them) it has to be this lemon drizzle cake (with over 2,500 reviews)

Lemon drizzle here too. Plus added vit C to help fight the cold.

You sound like a lovely Mum! Am sure it'll help cheer her up.

Not a cake, but a bowlful of warming comfort pudding always does the trick here:

Banana bread, because I can knock it up in 5 minutes. It’s the only recipe I remember in imperial measurements because it’s 2,4,6,8

2 eggs and bananas
4oz butter
6oz brown sugar
8oz self raising flour

(add walnuts, sultanas or chocolate chips if you fancy)

Pop it in a lined loaf tin for 45 minutes or as muffins for 22 minutes.

Thank you everyone! I went with the citrus theme but as I have made a fair bit of Mary Berry's lemon drizzle last summer I fancied something slightly different so made a Sicilian whole orange cake.

It was really easy to make and dd's comment was 'it was so good' 😀. I might have had a piece or 2😋
