That nice sauna smell - possible to replicate?

That nice sauna smell - has anyone successfully replicated it at home? Oils? Diffusers??

It can't be just wood or it would eventually evaporate unless it's periodically infused again.

Any secrets?

Other peoples sweat?

MissisBoote · 05/02/2023 19:20

It's probably eucalyptus oil

Berrystraw · 05/02/2023 19:31

Try palo santo wood, make sure it’s ethically sourced.

Last time I was in a sauna, I threw water on the coals. It wasn’t water….it was urine. The stench was hideous. We all exited the sauna fast.

This 😳 I’m guessing you’re using nicer saunas than I’ve been! What smell are you thinking of??

heyyouitsme · 05/02/2023 19:37

Cedar wood

YogaLite · 05/02/2023 19:58

Definitely not eucalyptus, that's more of a nasal remedy.
I will try cedar, thank you @heyyouitsme

I am hoping someone involved with sauna maintenance comes to spill the secrets as if it was just the wood, then they would be ripping them out periodically to replenish.

It could be something they spray on the coals (apart from water).

No expert on Finnish saunas but most I have been to in spa/good hotels seem to have the same woody smell that intensifies with heat/steam after putting water on the coals.

i will try cedar.

It's a warm woody smell that almost has a backnote of baked goods. Following in case someone has the secret!

YogaLite · 05/02/2023 20:16

I will also give Palo Santo a go, thank you @Berrystraw

Went to a sauna yesterday and I still have that smell in my hair, I need to replicate it somehow.

It's wood
