Broken tooth

The inside half of one of my side teeth has just broken off, great!
I am going to ring the dentist tomorrow, however, I am not expecting to be able to get an appointment any time soon (or even for my call to be answered 🙄)
would it be worth ordering one of the temporary fillings online to put in it until I can get an appointment? And if so, any recommendations? I was thinking somewhere like amazon would be able to do a quick delivery.

Is it painful? Is your dentist nhs or private? I would call first thing or pop in first thing, they will have emergency appointments and be able to advise on temporary fillings. In the mean time, keep the area clean, rinse with salt water and eat on the opposite site. If it's painful ibuprofen is usually the number one choice.

Part of a back tooth chipped off during lockdown. I tried temporary fillings which broke off within 24 hours. I got used to the pain, but it was filled in a metal cap 18 months later which solved. I've chipped the inside of a front tooth off since - not painfu l- dentist isn't going to do anything with it.

No, not painful. Nhs dentist, it’s not easy to pop in though, it’s a few towns away. I will just keep trying to ring tomorrow. Unfortunately, I can’t take ibuprofen, however, as there isn’t any pain at the moment I’ll keep my fingers crossed it stays that way.
I suppose I was just thinking that a temporary filling might keep it clean until I can get in to the dentist. Hopefully they will answer the phone tomorrow and give me some advice.
18 months crikey!
thanks for your replies.

The temp filling stuff falls off within days, or even hours. I never see the point.

Also had a tooth break this weekend, hope I can see the dentist before April.

Georgieporgie29 · 05/02/2023 20:49

@lljkk ill keep my fingers crossed for you too 😄
what are you going to do with yours in the mean time? Just leave it?

Mine isn't painful at all, phew, and I reckon I can keep it clean enough. I think it's only a bit of tooth around filing that came off, that's what happened to me before, so just part of the 36yr old filling failed, basically. I have a private dentist, BUPA, & I'm 18m overdue a check up... they will want to do full xrays & all that shebang, won't they. I bet it's a 2 month wait to even see the dentist, though. Gonna be a long haul before resolved.

Georgieporgie29 · 06/02/2023 07:11

@lljkk ah I see. I hope it stays pain free for you until you can get seen, and it’s not too costly!

Do you get it sorted with the dentist ?

Georgieporgie29 · 25/01/2024 20:57

@Kayguildford1 yes, they kind of built it up with a white filling. It’s still half a tooth but smooth. He said we will try and see how well this works but my other option was an implant at the cost of about £3 grand so we’re trying this first and so far so good almost a year on, although I hope I haven’t jinxed myself now.

@Georgieporgie29 that's good to hear! I have an appointment tomorrow for my lower molar where some of it has broke off quite far down. I'm dreading it xx

Georgieporgie29 · 26/01/2024 09:20

@Kayguildford1 i hope your appointment goes ok. I was dreading it too but honestly it was fine
