Passport confirm identity

supadupapupascupa · 05/02/2023 17:22

I've been asked to confirm an identity on an online application for passport.
My passport has expired. So I can't.
What do we do? Google is not helping....

Can they not appoint someone else to confirm identity?

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 05/02/2023 17:25

You say no, because you haven’t got a valid passport, and they find someone else to do it.

AnotherAppleThief · 05/02/2023 17:26

They'll have to choose someone else then. Not really sure what you want people to suggest...

Mindymomo · 05/02/2023 17:26

the passport office contacts the person to tell them they need to find another person to confirm identity.

ArcticSkewer · 05/02/2023 17:27

They change the person via the online application to someone who actually has an in date passport

supadupapupascupa · 05/02/2023 17:28

There's nowhere where I actually so "no"

It just asks for my details and says I can't....

you need to tell the person whose application it is and they need to amend the application from their end and name someone else

supadupapupascupa · 05/02/2023 17:36

Yep. But how? It's online and been sent.

I will ring them tomorrow and let them know I can't do it. Hopefully they will then get back to the applicant. I have the reference number.

There really should be a tick box.... can you do this or not!

How about how it is possible to this. Obviously that's what needs to happen. My question is how"

Thank you. But the passport office doesn't know. There's no way to tell them on the online system. It will just sit there for 49 years .

I will call them in the morning

Did they not ask you before giving your details?

The person whose application it is needs to lig back in and change the details to someone with an indate passport.

ApolloandDaphne · 05/02/2023 18:11

Contact the person who has put your name down and tell them they need to find someone else.

windyarse · 05/02/2023 18:17

Surely you just tell the person Confused

Alwayswonderedwhy · 05/02/2023 18:20

Didn't they ask you before giving your details?

Alwayswonderedwhy · 05/02/2023 18:22

Just tell the person who had given your details. There's an option on the application to give a different person's details.
Hopefully they'll actually check the next person is willing and able to do it.

User4873628 · 05/02/2023 18:23

It's really easy. Tell the person you can't do it, by phone, text, whatever.

They log back in to their online application and select a different person. They type the new person's email address into the relevant box and a new email gets sent to that person.

Really simple.

Tell them now, don't wait till the morning and don't call the passport office. Call your friend.

I know this because this exact thing happened to me just last week.

CustardCreamm · 05/02/2023 18:26

Yes tell the person you are doing it for that you can't, they'll just need to log into their account and allocate a new person. I don't think you need to do anything.

worried4698643 · 05/02/2023 18:30

They just resend the link to someone else.

2crossedout1 · 05/02/2023 18:33

You need to contact your friend, not the passport office.

amylou8 · 05/02/2023 18:50

Did the person not ask you first? If they didn't I wouldn't be wasting any of my time trying to sort it out.

MissAmbrosia · 05/02/2023 18:57

DH has just done this for my friend - she had tried dentist/doctor before. The applicant just needs to update the online form with someone else's details.
